The only guy on the board who never visited MTB?
As a newbie I would just like to say how much fun I get out of this forum. I sit for many hours alone at my computer translating endless pages of facts and figures but now all I have to do is call up the board to have a little chuckle. thanks to all of you for the piquant input.
Now to the question. How is it I've been in Phuket 5 times to date and never made it to the MTB: am I starting my bar crawl at the wrong end? I always stay on the back road behind the Patong Merlin and generally walk up to Bangla. Since MTB is such a landmark and I'm a classic barfly I can only think it's time to get new glasses, concentrate less on BGs or commence drinking later in the evening. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

Keep looking
It's not that hard to find.
Suggest you get to Bangla sober enough to recognise Soi Eric. The rest is easy. You will have a good time.

Thanks for that crus & marc, I'll make that a must do. Tell the truth, I never think too mutt when I'm over there. That's why I go, it's the healing qualities of LOS that keep me going back.

Go down Bangla to Soi Eric, MTB is a little more than half way down Soi Eric on the right hand side. There is a small stage with a pole in front of it.

Been to Thailand and Patong five times, never visited MTB and I hardly knows where it might be located.

The reason I have not visited MTB yet is just that there are so many other things to focus on in the Bangla area than looking for one special bar.

If you look for girls it doesnt matter where you go, if you look for a chat with fellow members there are always members around at MTB. I know its not everybodys cup of tea.

I think that by having a meeting place here on the forum and in person at MTB is something which has enhanced many of our holidays, so worth trying even if you think it's not 'your thing', also gives you a chance to meet the local reprobate expats
Not a fancy bar but a great meeting up place and somewhere to have fun. I'm told there are also some nice looking girls there ........

there are still lots of places i want to go in patong but the bars seem to put the brakes on at times, all the time.
just make the MTB one of your first stops, you,ll enjoy

No problem RobRoy, glad I could help. Like a few people have said there is a hell of a lot going on around Bangla to detract velly hansum maaaaaaaaans into going. Yep, the Mai Thai Bar is just one of many bars but if you pop along and introduce yourself as a board member to Nicke he will let you know who else is around and maybe one or two may even be sat in the bar.
It's hard to know who is a BM if you haven't met them I know. I thought they were all velly hansum maaaaaaaaans but they ain't! Some are ugly and smell.
You don't have to stay all night! We just usually make it a port of call to see who is there, say hello, have them buy us a beer and then move on and around town.
Didn't know Nicke had started doing cups of tea!

Agree with that.
I met some great "heads" there on my first trip last sept. It definitely enhanced my holiday.
Another four flippin' months till I'm back...
Still on course for a longer trip this time though.
Roll on June, July, August, September +?

Same same. I have been to Patong many times and still have not been to MTB. That will all change in April. This time i will make it my first port of call instead of planning to get there after i have had a few drinks on the way. I just seem to keep getting caught up in the moment and never seem to carry out my intentions. Hope to see you there some time.

Think is the least one can do, seeing it is thanks to him this forum even exists

Thanks a lot Denver, that's a must do. Handsome I am not but I don't smell (at least I don't think so, I shower once a month whether I need to or not). And tea's fine for me, so long as it's with a Mekong chaser. Nice corresponding with you all.

I have the opposite problem!
I go out most nights trying to avoid MTB but always end up sitting talking to Nicke and other BM's.
What I reckon it is, is that Nicke or maybe Ead have Brainwashed me or hynotised me one night so that as soon as I hear "Tonight, Tonight....." or "Tomorrow night, Tomorrow night....." etc etc, I have to go there.
Still could be worse, a bar in soi seapearl could of done it!

Is that the same reason you visit soi paradise during the day simon???
i reckon without the board i would not have visited so many times over the last couple of years, would have saved me a bloody fortune aswell, i really have met a lot of people i would consider good friends and always look forward to meeting up with them again.
My biggest problem is the lack of afternoon drinkers, most seem onl | |
