Bit curious this year - my calender says new moon was last night (16th) so wonder why this new yaer is tomorrow (18th). My Thai-Chinese nighbours already have got going with the fire crakers.

Anyway wishing you all a Happy New Year of the Pig.

My GF is telling me we have to get a chicken and do a temple run tomorrow.. Why would that have to be the day after Giers opening !!

You calendar is wrong, the new moon is at 16:15 GMT today (17th), so in China, Hong Kong, Singapore etc. the New Year is the 18th, in Thailand its the 17th (just).

Fireworks (including firecrackers) are banned here in Hong Kong, so we have electric firecrackers - lights and bangs, but no smoke. There is a big Government organised fireworks display in the harbour on Monday, and smaller ones on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Today, Monday & Tuesday are holidays here; China will basically shut down till the end of February. Last year, it was estimated that 700million Chinese were on the move over the New Year (called Spring Festival).

I've just bought a 'Golden' Pig from a bloke dressed as a Chinese man, said his name was Jackie Chan I think, outside the bank. It's running around the living room now and all the gold paint is coming off on the furniture.

Not such a lucky year for me! I thought it was a genuine Good luck Golden Pig!

They have been letting rip with crackers all day.Tonight it will get even worse.

Bangla will look like a remake of some war movie with all the smoke and noise.Yehaa.
