One liner posts - annoying?

Noticed in another thread recently:-
Quote:
this one liner sh1t just annoys people.

Quite often we get one liner posts that add little, or no value to the thread. This forum is not as bad as some where all you see is thinks like: "me too", "ataboy" or just a line of smileys - but there do appear to be several one line posts.

Personally, I don't find it annoying, and I am a little surprised that people do. I find it easier to scan one line of inconsequential gibberish, than a whole paragraph of rubbish, that contributes nothing to the subject being discussed.

So what do you think or do you even care? Was the person I quoted making a rash generalisation, or has he touched upon the feelings of most of the people here?

Doesnt really matter - you know already IJ makes a lot of one liners so already half expect it, and doesnt spoil the quality most times, just a quick smile lifts the spirits.

One of the good things about this vBulliten Forum is that you can hover over the thread start and see what the topic is about - then decide if its worth time reading or not. Other forums like TV you cant do this so more labourious to have to open each thread then often find its a waste of time.

Do find some of the more inane questions, polls and annicdotes annoying at times but then have the option to read, reply or not and after all what I dont enjoy someone else might. 20K BM's is scope for a lot of variety!

I just cut & pasted this piece below as written by Stevem in the newbies section under the heading of "forum ettiquette"

Power posting

Most internet forums display a count of the number of posts you have made and assign you a ranking in accordance with your post count. Frequent brief posts of the 'I agree', 'LOL' or similar type will definitely be seen as a deliberate attempt to rapidly raise your ranking. Such behaviour clutters a forum, uses up bandwidth and server space, and renders any 'Recent posts' feature rather useless. Your contributions to forum discussion should add something to it.

One liners

Sometimes, less is more.

What does piss me off, though, is if I'm looking at a thread of supposed "stunner" girl pirctures or something of the sort, and I go to all the trouble of letting the page load to see the new picture(s), and all that's new there are ten posts from guys commentng on the pictures.

I don't post one liners just to boost my post count. But I did join the board to get information on a variety of topics. It's not so easy to ask a question and make it more than one line, should I pad it out with a row of 55555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555555 55555555555555555?

I use a high resolution wide screen monitor so a lot of posts are one liners.

There's nothing wrong with a one liner, so long as it contributes something. Its the "thanks", "me too", "5555", smilies that are annoying and add nothing. Now I just now after this, there will be some simple minds that will post these exact posts.

There's nothing wrong with a simple thanks, S. You could go on to add a string of insincere platitudes just to meet the "more than one line" criterion, much as I'm presently doing but it is a fact that many people can convey a world of meaning in one succinct line.
