Jungceylon-1st bar open
Absolute Ceylon looks like it's the first bar to open in JungCeylon. Live band playing nighttime. 3 pool tables. Situated right at the back next to Carrefour. Might help to attract more people to the area at night. Irish Bar will be opening next to it.
No sign of the SFX Cinema opening though

Think the Irish Bar will be a little while unless Jceylon get themselves sorted. The owner lives here on The Hills and said he has waited more than ayear for them to give him an opening date and then when he starts work in there they told him that the air con is linked to the entire mall so it goes off at 12pm, he stays open to 2pm.
They will not alter and if he wants aircon for the extra two hours then theyv'e asked for some stupid extra payment, (think it was 60K). So he has a little legal battle going on at the moment and rightly he also said he doesn't want to open until more shops etc are in there.
I think the latter is a real problem as everyone is saying the same and if no one goes first then they will wait until when?

If the Cinema does open, they will have shows till after midnight?
Then the Irish Bar doesnt have to pay the xtra stupid payment?
What time does Absolute Ceylon close?

Will have to take a look at Absolute Ceylon. How is it finished? Nice or like a standard bangla bar?
You got to love how Jungceylon is shooting themselves in the foot before they even start going.

The Irish Bar is going to be about 250-300 square meters, that includes the kitchen, bar and storage areas, so around the 200 square meters of seating.
The other issue he has right now is the parking and drop off. Allegedly they are also talking of closing the carparks at midnight as well as shutting down the cold water air-con feeds to the properties. They will need thier own independant split units to continue until thier licencing kick out time of 0200.
We know the name of the place now but I will let that be a surprise. As soon as we know the opening date and there is going to be free food etc then we will keep that to ourselves! 5555555555 Knowing my luck I'll be on a visa run!

Would have been sensible to get The Irish Bar open by St Patricks Day !! - well I'll have to go celebrate with Crusty at Faulty's - should be fun!
As far as the parking - insanely - it still closing at midnight and the tuk-tuks make sure by blocking the entrance in Rathuthit Rd opposite the Boxing Stadium! Surely charging say 20 Baht for anyone leaving after 2AM would be reasonable - enough topay for security - and parking for all.

Licences??
It is all a question of licences as well.
For a start - does this Irish Bar (or the others for that matter) want to be open in a shopping mall when all the punters are down Bangla.
The straight answer is NO.
The bars going into Jungeceylon can operate from 0900.By closing time in the mall they have made their money. They are there to enhance the mall not to be girlie bar hang outs.
All their licences probably only allow them to be open until midnight anyway. To be a restaurant and open until 2am is a totally different licence.

I have had conversations with a chef who was going to help with the Irish place.. The description I got was they wanted a regular molly malones type theme pub..
Also you have to think.. That once they have the resturants open etc there is a 'night time' option for people who maybe dont want the bangla experience. I think its far to early to tell if JC will be just a mall or a different kind of hangout.
I can easily see that going out, dropping into a nice resturant or MK snack scene.. Catching a movie.. Coming out getting an ice cream and or a beer.. Sitting in the outdoor space.. Hell thats could be 2am easily..
All our initial comments on how JC can have a large part in changing the face of patong, wasnt merely based on having a supermarket and a sports store.. More that there will be a different type of environment for at least some of the evening..

Is Indochine still opening up? I thought they were to be part nightclub. Can't close that at 12.

In a word....NO, Johnny. Right now it's not the sort of place you'd go looking for a "takeaway" More like somewhere to take your latest conquest to impressher.
It's only been open a few days. I went last night from 11.30 to 1am. About 20 customers in when I arrived, mainly farangs, a few with TGs they'd brought with them. Couple of very nicely madeup Thai ladies sat at the bar drinking cocktails. All 3 pool tables in play. 3 waitresses doing table service and available as poolplaying partners. 3 behind the bar. The 5-piece band were on stage. Think they are American. Played reggaeish/middleoftheroad stuff...none of that garage/house/gardenshed music that does my head in. They are bl##dy excellent and deserve to play to far bigger audiences. They had a break at 12 and were back on at 12.30.
Area is about the same as Taipan, maybe slightly smaller. It's done out very nicley, sort of wine bar-ryish. Lots of wood/wood effect, parque floor. Plenty of space, not too many tables/stools.
Played pool....20baht/game....so cheaper than the Bangla tables and tables/cues obviously new. Nice to be able to play without the cue banging into walls/columns/tables/people!
Chang/Tiger 100baht...Heineken 120...JD and Coke 120 (which is cheaper than some Bangla bars)...LadyDrink 120.
Didn't notice if the airconditioning went off at midnight...it may well have done but when I left at 1am it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Band were still on stage but customers were down to about 6.
Biggest problem it will have is LOCATION. If the Irish Bar does open and if there were one or two more similar in the area that would help. If it were down the other end of Jungceylon opposite the Boxing stadium it would do really well. Also they really need to get signs up out side.
I'll definitely be a regular there. It's open till 2am.
