Thanks for any help you can give

Sure I'm aware of that, just making a general comment, that perhaps you guys on the other side of the transaction mightn't think about. Just trying to give some insight into some of the things we go through as bar owners.

I think it is +7 hours difference from England/Ireland because it is 6 hours from Sweden.

Thailand GMT+7
Sweden GMT+1
England/Ireland GMT

Irish Jonny is also around and his friend Damien, also irish.

The more you change at once the quicker it seems to disappear, the exchange rates in Patong are fairly competitive.

Don't get mislead by the fact that you saved half a cent by changing it at the Airport it's easier to keep track of it if you change some every couple of days, the monopoly money goes quick in Disneyland.

Time difference

Hi Allybabba 22.
England is on British summertime at the moment. This makes thailand 6 hrs. ahead.
Don't know what the diff is for Ireland though.
Regards changing currency. Change a little @ a/port for your immediate needs. Taxi etc. as the exchange rate is not good.
Change the rest @ money changers on Bangla, Beach Rd. etc. These rates are as good as you'll find anywhere.
Have a good trip.

Travel time

In total, from when you close your front door, reckon on about 20-24 hours.

Its worth it though........

DO bars accept credit cards and, if so, is it safe to do so?

The ATM is obviously the simplest and easiest. But beware - different banks apply different surcharges and some of them are a real killer, as I just found to my cost when I got my monthly statement! I'm a dozy twat with money anyway.

Dawsey, if you've got HSBC debit card, you should spare the extra time it might take to track down an HSBC ATM, or an affiliate. Then there should be no surcharge.

Some bars accept credit cards (eg.: U2, Gonzo, ...) but most not.

If you ask at Dublin you should be able to check them all the way through to Phuket. When you arrive in Thailand you will clear immigration at Bangkok. You will arrive at Phuket at the domestic arrivals, you then have to go into international arrivals to collect your cases, and go through customs there.

You can also clear the immigration in Phuket. The connection flights at the International Airport in Bangkok for Phuket are normally in one of the gates 1 to 7
So you donīt have to go at Bangkok to the National Airport and in Phuket not to the International to pick up your baggage

Several times I was withdrawing 26,000 bath at ATM, it costs me about 4 euro transaction fee. Think the limit is about 500 euro, but didīt check.

I have never seen a bar accepting credit cards. Even some stores donīt accept european visa cards. Lotus accepts all kind of credit cards without additional pay, normal stores (even the gold stores your gf likes a lot), cannot accept european cards or you have to pay an additional 3 percent. It is cheaper go to atm and get 500 euro with your ec card.
