it is Patong beach in 1986!

Thats a good question!

When I first went to Phuket I took a video camera fortunately as my 35mm was stolen at the airport.

But, I have some great video footage of the island from 15+ years ago.

Does anyone know how to go about converting from 8mm video tape to digital stills?

Then I may have some pics to share.

I'll post some once I get my scanner up and running again, although I didn't go to Patong on my first two trips to Phuket.

Put a video capture card in your computer and capture stills using that, assuming you have the correct cables etc.

Great pics mate. They've gone a long way since then hav'nt they..... I see the tuk tuks havnt changed too much...Imagine patong in another 15 years......

Those photos are always hard to look at. bloody shatering. But its good to see how good they've picked up and recovered.

And just by the way, the photo in pic 5 is not Patong Beach and the one in pic 6 is not Bangla Road.

The only photo out of the 100's I have from 2004 that I want to publish here. Taken at Au Nang the moment the Tsunami wave hit the sea wall and just went straight up. The guy walked away with just a soaking though his camera didn't do too well. What was he thinking standing there.
