cell phones in thailand?

Hello,
Had a great time in Phuket. Now home in Florida and unable to call friend back in Phuket. Local calls from hoel phones and pay phones in Phuket were no problem, calling the number from back home is proving difficult. Am missing talking to her already. Not sure if there is a diffrent city code for cell phone(08), or just use 76. Any help would be apreciatted.

area codes for cell phones are usually 083-6-9...but you need to omit the 0. i get call from the US on my cell here in phuket with no problems.

Remember country code also. "+66 8 76## ####" or "011 66 8 76## ####"

It depends on the service and the access number dialed to call (if from a cell phone). I think it ranges from about 10 baht / min to about 5 baht / min. You can checkout some details here Telephone Tips in Thailand

I use the 009 number for 5 baht / min and it works good enough for me. Still much more expensive than 6 cents / minute I get on a calling card from Zaptel to call Thailand from US.

Thanks for the help. Using the 08 instead of Phuket City code, and omitting the 0 was the key.
