LOS and beyond please advise SEA

Hi, my wife and I are going to Singapore and Phuket in late September to early October 2007.
After that she fly’s home for work and I have a month or so on my hands.

Here are my questions.

I’m thinking of doing a tour something like this:

Phuket
Ranong
Mergui (Burma) or stay the Thai side of the boarder?
Kanchanaburi (Hellfire pass, Burma Railway)
Ayutthaya

After that the maybes are

Chiang Mai (too far north?)

Laos Maybe

Really want Phnom Penh. Cambodia

Really want some Vietnam, friends say Saigon better than Hanoi, but mostly want to see beautiful places. Hao long Bay (yes I know it’s North)

Budget,
Can afford to fly legs but anything under 300klms will probably bus or train to see more.

Accommodation 30 US\ 40 AUD or there about. Cheaper is better but I don’t need a flea pit at my age, 40’s.

Any advice gratefully received.

Please feel free to suggest alternate itinerary, I don’t think I’ll get this going solo chance again for a while, if ever.

If you know of a more appropriate forum for the off Thailand legs, I’d like them too.

Thanks in antipcipation

Dear Mods, did I post this in the wrong place?

If so can you please move me or can I do it myself.

Thanks.

You don't need advice, you need a complete traven agency with all those questions. I suggest that you don't take to much condensed in one month. Take ample time and remember that you will lose a lot of time, even days, travelling around.
Also, I don't think there are a lot of connections between all those destinations, so maybe you will have to return to BKK each time.

Cool Burma

Burma is still fairly retricted for off the cuff travel.

Laos is a friendly place for a few days.I do some Visa runs to Vientaine. There are some threads on there already.

Cambodia has been visited by many BMs and they have done reports on it too.Phnomm Penn is good for a look see and the southern resort of Sirinookville was featured on recent travel programmes.

The train journey from Siagon to Hanoi is also supposed to be good to do.

Thanks crusty,
was unsure about Burma, will now cross it of the list, it just seemed to be on the way north from phuket.

Have been reading blogs on other sights also.

Thanks again, every drip of info helps fill the bowl.

i had a month solely in los last year and my intinery was

changmai
sukothai
bangkok
pattaya
koh samui
phuket

from these places you can tour to other places for the day(s) and see the change s as you travel north to south. it gives you a mix of culture, beach and fun in a balanced, measured way. flights are cheap and VIP buses even cheaper depending on your time .

just an idea for you to consider

Thanks Kheemao, I was looking for a bit more adventure. Yes I know theres plenty in patts. I'll have to check the waiting list on liver transplants before I take you up on this one.
Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Mega45, that leaves less travel and more time on location while still giving variety.
Maybe I am trying to bite of more than I can chew.

It's starting to make sense.

thanks

shway.

Hi welshmike, if you're welsh and in australia did you get on the wrong flight from patts?
I think I would after a month of party.
Either that or posted home in a bag.
Thanks for the reply, all things considered.
