Can anyone recommend a good dive center? I want to get back into it and do some certifications. Small class size or individualized instruction, professional operation with at least some small amount of equipment for sale -- don't want to borrow mask and snorkel.

I can recommend Merlin Divers in Kamala beach, small and personal service. I learned diving with them. They also have a speedboat.

When you have your certificates, I can recommend West Cost Divers for daytrips, they have a very good fleet of modern diving boats.

You can buy your mask, snorkel and fin in many diving shops, the biggest ones in Patong is Dive Supply (close to Christins) and All4Diving (Sawatdirak road).

I had a very good experience with Warm Water Divers in Patong.
I shopped around, and they came out on top in my little survey. Not the cheapest, but the best value.

I have used warm water divers in the past to book my dives , only to find that they themselves were booking through South Siam divers who were very good.especially the dive masters who i was with.
The only thing i would say to be weary of was renting equipment from any dive operator ,on these occasions i had hired it all from Warm water divers as i did not want to carry the extra weight on my flights.
i found that of the three dive trips i had done , the was always something wrong with the gear faults like they supplied a large size b.c.d when i requested a medium, the gauge consol was leaking valuable air and straps on the mask were not much good so i was do doing constant mask clears.
luckly for me South siam divers who actually do the dives (not the equipment hire) were more than helpfull with replacement gear some of it even being the dive masters own spare kit.
on my next tour i will probaly be going through south siam again , but this time i will be bring my own kit out with me.
