In the Gulf of Thailand at the South East tip of the main land, near the Cambodian border. You will fly to Trat (on the mainland) and take a ferry over.

See Koh-Chang.com - Koh Chang Hotels and Resorts, Booking Online Services, Koh Chang, Trat, Thailand

55555...........snob boy!!!!

actually don't think you can get a plane to Trat.....so its gonna be Patts (oh dear don't start up just yet Paulie ....surely you could overnight at the Marriott and visit "Pattaya Slim".....I'll tell you more about this one later if you are interested....very upmarket and head and shoulders above anything I've seen in LOS so far...but has prices to match) and then a road/ferry trip....but it is mostly an upmarket resort island so I'm sure you can get a better method of transport than van.....I'm sure limos are on offer for a price

I reckon you'd like it there M26.....pretty serene and some good quality hotels...with high thread counts.....

I'd recommend Samet as it is much closer and possibly more naturally beautiful as an island but you can't get 5 star on Samet....its more your bungalow style

Bangkok Airways runs the Trat flights (and the airport). Occasionally they'll operate a Phuket-Trat service in addition to the Bangkok-Trat route. Check their website.

That said, if you figure in the time it takes to get to the airport, wait for your flight, then get from Trat airport to the ferry, a van or bus from Bangkok or Pattaya is not that much longer. And maybe even less of a hassle since you don't have to transfer from taxi to plane to shuttle.

OR, you could do what I like to do...rent a car in Bangkok and drive yourself. It's an interesting drive, and a car is very useful on Koh Chang. It's the country's second-largest island after Phuket.

Well I'd say that despite its isolated situation Chang would be a great place for your GF to work Paul.....away from all of the cr@p that goes in in a lot of the other places..........and quality allround really.......although its more like other worldwide resort islands than any other part of LOS I've ever visited..........

have to agree with Nels. here,
good island to visit , green and quiet and a good beach [white sand`s] , and a lot more quieter than phuket , and patts for sure!
but to many damn hippies!

OH , and i saw a b/g at the beach one day!
according to my g/f , there where 3 of them on the island!

Hi

I went to Kon Chang on my last trip book through a travel agent on lk metro/ soi Diana went for 4 days and 3 nights and stayed at the V J Resort and spar. We went by mini bus to the ferry it took about 4hrs including a stop off then change to another one to get to the hotel it cost me for two between 9000-10000bht including all travel room and breakfast, You might find cheaper but i could be bothered to look anywhere else I thought it was not too bad. The hotel was very nice, clean and quite with a pool and right on the beach. There was a bigger hotel one side and one being build the other (didn't hear much noise from the building). Its a really nice place to go to chill out I would not go by myself in the part we stayed at. We did walk along the beach during the day time but never ventured from the hotel at night .

Check out my photos through the like at the botttom Thailand March April 2007

stayed in koh chang last year for 4-5 days. nice island. very few steep beaches. find yourself wading out 100-200 meters and still only waist deep water. took bus from bkk to trat. then ferry to koh chang. can pick up a motor bike right where the ferry comes in and departs. paid 150 baht a day. many places to stay from 100 baht and up. someday will go back.
