Bars/Djing/recommendations

Hello there good people of Phuket-info

Going to be in phuket for the month of july. I am a dj here in the states and would like to rock some gigs whilst in thailand. Wondering if you have any bars/clubs you could recommend that I contact in phuket? More or less if you've seen a dj perform at one, id like to email or call them to see if they're interested. From what Ive read it seems like they're are some Bar Owners/Managers here in the forum I might be able to get in contact with. Any info is greatly appreciated!!!

thanks Ian

Hi Jesus (that sounds weird 55555)

I think you are going to run into work permit problems with getting any DJ work in Thailand. The local bar owners can probably expand on this, but its really difficult to get a WP doing a job that a Thai can do.
I know there are European DJ's working in LOS, but I don't know how they have got around the problem.

Get caught without the WP by the MIB and you could be in big trouble.

Hey there dawsey,

thanks for the info, from what ive been told by other backpacking djs in thailand there isn't too much trouble to worry about, who knows though, Im not looking for total payment and contracts and whatnot, I just want to play some music for the people of said clubs/bars, Im not concern'd with getting paid what so ever, if the owner/manager wanted to throw me some baht or free drinks for the service then so be it, but Im really just trying to get in contact with venues that I could dj at and play some good music

Im thinking it might be best to just get there and make my way around from bar to club to bar to club and see if they have any sort of system I could work with.

People have been arrested for just getting up and jamming with a band for a song or two.. Major problems to be caught.. Makes no difference if not being paid one cent..

Chances of being caught are low but will depend on the clubs relationship with the police..

This is actually a lot more complicated than you assume.

You may have more luck on some of the smaller islands. I don't see you having much luck on Phuket.

Besides most clubs in Phuket won't want to let an unknown mess with thier music and crowd. I've run into a lot of wannabe DJs. They just want some time to spin and are generally very bad. Most clubs won't want to risk clearing the dance floor...except Seduction where clearing the dance floor seems to be policy.

that's a negative comment. Should I avoid taking my Tilak dancing at Seduction?

Cool Possibly one place

I have seen foreign DJs doing impromptu guest spots in VIP Asia.

Anton is the owner and he usually welcomes some alternative talent.
