My mate at work gave me 500 baht

My mate at work who has just come back from Phuket gave me 500 baht for when I arrive in Thailand ( bankok in transit to Phuket).
He has just come back and felt I may be able to use it for a drink or some food without trying to change money until I get to my hotel in Phuket.
What a great guy. Very thoughtful I think.
I want to now buy him something while I am there end of May and early June as a thank you.
What do you think I should buy him.
By the way I know its not a lot of money but the thought counts.

Regards

DB

If he's going next again after you, why not give him 500 Baht ?

But seriously, how can we tell what to bring him if we don't know this guy ?

I know what you mean UB2Yoo,
I have known this guy for 15 years and do not really know him at all as he mostly keeps to himself about his interests and private life.
Loves his cars and motor bikes but something simple I think would be the order of the day.
I really don't know but he will be there again soon as he goes to Phuket every year, so maybe 500 baht is the answer.
Anyone elese got any ideas.

Regards

DB

I would think that once you get there and start shopping around you will easily find something. If you know him and his interests well it shouldn't be too hard.

Better than a gift ... take a lot of pictures ... share them over a few beers when you come home, plus burn him a CD. That is a thought that counts.

Thanks Mr Dk,
Will keep that in mind as I know he like photos of LOS very much.
He has been great with his advice as he has been to Phuket around 12 or 13 times in as many years.
I am sure when I get there I will find something to buy him but just thought I would ask for some advise just in case some of you have been in the position I am in as I have never been given money before.

Regards

Use the 500 to send the lady to a 2-hour massage, while you go have a beer (at Christin) for 1 1/2 hour.

I'd agree on just giving him the 500 for his own trip, I don't think just buying him a gift is a comparable gesture. The important thing about what he did was not the 500 baht itself but that he thought about something that would help you out there and couldn't obtain yourself. A return gesture could be as simple as saving hotel cards, local maps or MrDK's CD idea. Maybe just ask if he wants anything brought back while you're over there. Think of it as the gift of knowledge or of a favour.

I suggest you buy him a new "mwokanok" He'll probably need one when he is over there. Could save him the cost of a ticket.

Now what was Kev's word, hmmmm............... oh yeah banal, don't know why that came to mind on this thread, cos I've been giving this matter a lot of serious thought. Was going to suggest a bottle of Rosso but heck its more expensive, daytrip somewhere, heck no more expensive, case of Singha, feck more expensive.

Yeah gotta go with Mav on this one, get him a northern tribal hat and a few croakers, then when he goes on holiday after you, give him your spare change and watch as he worries and now has to ask all his friends what to do with it, ha ha could be a new national sport!!!!

Ooops, who let me out, time to go back to grumpville!!

Hi guy's,
as I said earlier the money is not the issue.
He gave me the baht so I did not have to try and find a money changer at the airport in Bankok if I wanted a drink or anything else.
Would like to buy him something though as he did not have to do this.
The value is not everything like when you receive a present from your grandparents.
Its the thought that counts.
I have money and don't look athe value. Just the fact he thought to be a friend
