Thats why on the side of them they say...NO INSURANCE....

Interesting to know how much that cost your friend. Hopefully one day that will outlaw these on public beaches.

The only thing that cruiseship will have is maybe some paintscratches. If it is the antifowling it is expensive paint, but never the less...a ship mooring or unmooring has more risk of dammage than of a collision with a jetski. It certainly won't need to drydock.
And why was that jetski so far out in the bay???
Must have happened between November and May as I suppose no vessels anchoring in Patong Bay with the monsoon winds now.
So 1000 euro dammage to a jetski? Was it total loss? Suppose the shipscrew had to interfere as those jetskiboys were certainly nowhere around.

Crash with motorbike or Jet ski!

Two people crash in phuket novermber, and was told to pay 400 000 for two damaged jet skies. Police came, confiscated passports, big trouble they say. So I guess they had to pay to get their passports back. I dont know the end of the story! Same if you crash on motorbike with local people, you can expect to pay everything + a little bit more to get your passports back!

Take care

Didn't I remember a post where you said you and your friends were robbed of 4000 euros from you hotel safe. Now you have another 1000 euros for a jetski on the same vacation. Are you serious?

Way back in 1992, I recall an incident where I got into a minor jetski accident in Patong.

If you look out staight on Patong Beach and you see the big cliff on the left that sections off the cove. Well, I remember jetskiing all the way around that to the next cove. I don't think I was supposed to go that far away...

Anyways, I was playing the turn hard and spray game with two other jetskiers in that next cove. Then one guy came to close to me and we smacked into one another. I basically T-Boned him cracking the side of his jetski a little bit. I was just a teenager at the time and I panicked. I high tailed it out of there all the way back to my cove. I didn't look back the whole way, just got out of there as quickly as possible. All I remember was the guy saying "aahhh maaan". I never found out what happened to him. I feel really bad about it now, even if it wasn't my fault (not sure). My rental guy was pissed on my return though, as I was out of his sights and gone for so long.
