I'm a fan of that stuff too. Drink it with coke. When in Rome... The trouble with drinking beer all night is having to hit the head all the time. Never seen it in the US.

I drank my fair share of it and grew quite fond of it myself. I order it with a glass of water. You can buy it here.

Sang Som Thai Liquor? And L21 plus shipping? I'll have to imagine what it use to taste like. It's not good enough to go looking for. Its just okay to drink while you're there. I saw it at the airport when I was leaving for 390 baht but didn't feel like carrying it.
The label on the export product doesn't look the same. Could it be something different? It's rum!

The reason you get sh!t faced so quickly is down to the ingredients and i don't mean the alcohol....a good Thai friend of mine who deals with exporting goods out of Thailand told me that Sang Som is not permitted into any EU country also Australia or America, this is also because of the ingredients, that is the reason that you will not find it in your local supermarkets or even speciality stores.
Oh he also told me DO NOT DRINK IT IN EXCESS his words not mine.

AS SEFTON livinlos says surely samsong is only drunk by guys who are running short of cash , although it says whiskey on the bottle it actually tastes like bacardi white rum, as for being smooth perhaps it is after drinking maybe a bottle of johnie black first (then you are so piss ed that everything is smooth 55555555)
i have to admit that i have spent some nights on the samsong its drinkable with red bull or lipo and soda but its horrible with coke or sprite !

But the good thing about it is or maybe it just the fact that im holidays in LOS, i never get a hang over get up next morning order a tom yum and a tiger beer.... you little rippa!!!

Bought a bottle of mehkong home with me. Meant to try sangsom on the advice of bar girl but didn't. Love the Mehkong after a few beers and the posters saying no hangover are right. It just does not happen.

I think it's more the experience you have with Sang Som.
It was the recent Chinese New Years I went out with a chic and her close friends to a park in Pattaya they had some live band.
Anyways they had a big jug of Sang Som, club soda and ice. It was pretty good. Got us all toasty. But that stuff gives you one hell of a hangover in the morning.

Have a coffee and put a shot Sang Som into it. Don't add milk or to much sugar. Yummy. Oh, and wait until the BG ask "why you are tired, you only drink coffee".

I think when they say "degree" they mean percent and it's most likely the finely selected herbs content that disconnects your brain from your legs after a few glasses !>>>>>
Rum
Rum is a kind of liquor derived from distilling cane juice, sugar or molasses until the product is with 60-95 degree alcohol content. The content will then be mixed with purified water to produce a satisfactory level of alcohol content before being transferred to age in charred oak barrels for at least one year. Before being bottled the liquor may be further mixed to adjust for desired color, aroma, and taste, but it has to have at least 40 degree alcohol content.
Sangsom Gold Medallion
Sangsom Gold Medallion is a rum that has to undergo a special production process, resulting in a fine liquor that has been distilled and aged in oak barrels for 5 years, after that, it is blended with a special concentrate of finely selected herbs and spices and the best quality alcohol to give Sangsom that special taste and aroma.
The liquor won a gold medal in the liquor competition in Madrid, Spain, in 1982 and 1983, and won another award in the liquor competition in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1983. Since then, it has been known among its connoisseurs as "Sangsom Gold Medallion".
Sangsom Superior
Sangsom Superior is a rum that has to undergo a special production process, resulting in a fine liquor that has been distilled and aged in oak barrels for 5-8 years.
Sangsom Premium
Sangsom Premium is a rum that has to undergo a special production process, resulting in a fine liquor that has been distilled and aged in oak barrels for 5-8 years. After that, it is blended with imported rye whiskey, a special concentrate of finely selected herbs, and spices and best quality alcohol from Sangsom Distillery.
Sangsom Similan
Sangsom Similan is a product of Sangsom rum that has been aged in oak barrels for 5-8 years. After that, it is blended with aged rum. No special concentrate is added, only some colors are added.
Mekhong
Mekhong is a special blend of 35 degree liquor, a product of Bangyikhan Distillery, the first distillery in Thailand. Mekhong was first produced in 1941 when the Excise Department's main aim then was to produce a Thai liquor with a high standard of production and taste to replaced imported products. It also underwent an extensive development in appearance, production process and taste from 1943 to 1946.
Mekhong Superior
Mekhong Superior is a product mixed of liquor with fine herbs and imported rye whiskey, as well as the best kind of alcohol from the Bangyikhan Distillery. This results in Mekhong Superior.
