how to get ADSL in Phuket

Hello,

Does anyone know how to get ADSL in Phuket? And how long does it take?
Do I need a work permit to do this? If I own a condo here, is it possible for me to get a private phone line by providing with my passport and the building ownership papers?

I have phone lines in my name without a work permit.. Tho I guess they also see my face in there too much as I had a year of bad line to the house and they may have just wanted rid of me.

If theres a line available in your exchange (this is less a problem than it was) then get line sign up for adsl.. Probably a couple of week to a month process.

If you are able to sign up for a CAT line.. (not not the CAT sold Maxnet or HiNet on TT&T lines) thats a 2Mbit line thats known to be the best soluton currently.. Otherwise theres options from both TT&T and TOT cheap but not always reliable or fast, less contention packages that are only a little better or pairing a line from either and a 'real' ISP like jasmine internet (JI Net)..

If you do have a line problem you can get a CDMA aircard which is wireless broadband.. 400 - 600 kbps for 590 per month (12k purchase of the hardware) whish is an ok solution I am told.. Slow uploads and higher ping times but usable.

Big areas of Phuket dont have ADSL at all and some areas dont have any available phone lines.

I had to show work permit to open a TT&T line in my name. You can also open in your company
name if you have one.

Should just make one of these posts a sticky in the expat section. Seems that the internet question comes up every few weeks but the answer has been the same for a while now.

Worth noting though: With TT&T it took 6 says for me, with TOT it took more than 2 months...
