When do they usually come?

The US Embassy in Thailand website says Cobra Gold is May 13-27th. Not sure if the leaves usually go on after the exercises or not???

hm, too bad I won't be there in June. I'd like to have a chat with the navy guys, I bet that they have lots of interesting stuff to talk about.

I was in LOS when the navy was there.
At this time, there where not so much guys around the bars as the most think. Sure, some come in groups and have fun of there “way” but the most are decent.
I had a chat with some of the navy at the beach and it was very interesting what they talk to me. They do a hard job and want to have fun like us.
If anyone have problems in LOS the MP is very strong to them. So I guess it is no problem for the other people when the navy is in LOS.

Usually they arrive in small numbers so you will barely notice them, only on few occassions they arrive 4-5000 sailors at the same time. I like to have them around, in low season it is very welcome and they are fun to talk too. (Mostly young boys)
I don't think Cobra Gold will affect Phuket at all, so I dont think we will see them here.

Like Nicke says, Cobra Gold has no affect on Phuket. I think it will be sometime before we see the US Navy in Patong in the numbers like the good old days.
Once we had a ship buy the bar for the night, wow what a night that was, fun for all. The only problems we had where not inside the bar, but outside keeping the guys not on the ship out of the bar. Its amazing to see the power of a single guy, who was the Chief of the Boat which brought the bar.
These guys wanted heavy club and trance music played, it didnt take the girls long to stop trying to dance to this type of music.
Any problems are very quickly resolved by the SP.

Look like we have a small group of sailors in Patong now.
Some bars in Soi Seadragon were busy with americans and I also saw a banner of Welcome USS something. Later last night I saw a few strolling around in Soi Eric. But as I said, you barely noticed them since they are just in small numbers. Strange I didnt see any military police patrolling thought.

USS Bonhomme Richard medical department booked MTB once, they paid in advance and I issued drink tickets for them. They used only 70% of the tickets thought. We started 13 in afternoon and had about 35 people and we also got food for them. It was fun, the same night one of the officers got a call and told me one one lady had been raped and killed on the beach.
In the daytime I could borrow lot of tables from the neighbouring bars. It was a great party.

us navy in patong
Most of our ships now are damn near half female. This really affects a CO's decision to go to thailand...When put to the crew for a vote (and this does happen), the Navy girls would rather go to Singapore or Australia where they can maintain their "Princess" status. They don't like to compete with all the TGs. So you will usually only see the smaller ships with all male crews coming through Patong.

Hi mbrinkma,
Thanks for your insight and funny you replied now because US Navy arrived yesterday. Too bad for the Navy girls's vote but I am sure they would love Phuket too, maybe not the nightlife part but other things.

navy girls
Yeah, they would love the "other things" about Phuket, but just as we males love the undivided attention of the BGs, they love the undivided attention of the male crewmembers...of which they receive none whilst in Phuket!

I am sure if they looked like and put out like the LBFM inhabitants of Patong they would not be very lonely for long mate.
Dumb farang women always trying to ruin a mans world.

They were in Patong during May this year, very low key and civvie clothes. Alot of them looked like raw little boys with baggy jeans and sneakers on. They also had a curfew of 10pm

navy in phuket
We tell 'em to wear civvies in order to blend in...except the fashion statements that some employ just make 'em stand out! Not too hard to "spot the American" We like to think though that most are low-key and well behaved. But 10PM curfew...might just as well pass up Phuket and head straight home!!!

Geespot - that's a sure sign you're getting old mate, when soldiers and coppers start looking like little kids to you.
