Tsunami evacuation drills- July 25
Phuket Gazette - online English newspaper for Phuket, Thailand, with daily news, classified ads, yellow pages, business listings, upcoming events, event calendar, phuket events
Quote:
The alarms will sound at 9:30 am and will be followed by the evacuation drills. The areas, along with Patong, include:
Muang district: Ao Yon, Kata, Karon, Kata Noi, Nai Harn, Rawai, Koh Lone, Koh Racha, and Ao Chalong.
Thalang district: Nai Yang, Bang Tao and Lay Phang, Mai Khao, Ao Por.
Kathu district: Kamala Beach.
The testing will include siren sounds as well as voice messages in Thai and English triggered by officials at the NDWC headquarters in Nonthaburi.

However, he also told the Gazette that it was unrealistic to expect all of the towers to function perfectly during the drill
|
So what is the fcuking point of having these towers if they don't work? Only in Thailand would this be an acceptable attitude.
Just imaging another tsunami rolling in where it whips out half of Phuket. This guys would claim victory saying they succsuffuly warned 50% of the people then do some whine about not having a budget approved to properly maintain the other towers. Idiots.

There was a TV bus and tents on the beach yesterday for the drill today, but I guess most of us dont notice as the drill is in the morning.
Its a shame if towers didnt work.

Funny I was just going to start a new thread to post this..
I didnt hear squat.. I had all doors and windows open and my place faces the beach.. I can often hear a sportbike if hes howling up through the gears..
Either it didnt happen or its a VERY quiet alarm.. Not air raid type sound anyway.

I heard a little bit of it. There was also someone driving around in trucks making an announcement. If it were real, I'd probibly sleep through another one like last time.

Tsunami Alert
All this Tsunami talk is just a knee jerk reaction to what was undeniably a catostrophic event. Now people are being forced into being seen to do something about it. Truth is by the time the next big one rolls in complacency may have returned. As the old story goes you can only cry wolf so many times.
