Strangely I have almost no desire to see any of the 'developed' world with the exception of NZ simply as my little brother raves about the place so much and I would like to check it out based on his enthusiasm for it. QUOTE]

NZ is amazing mate. I'd move there tomorrow if I could.

I really flagged with Patong a few weeks ago, so did a bit of travelling round Krabi, which really perked me up again. Some of the beaches and islands there are amazing. The trouble with Patong is there's just so little to do if the weather's shit, which it has been for ages. I find the place fundamentally annoying on many different levels - the fake plastic smiles - like every day is NYE or summat - the pestering, the fact there's always something under your feet or about to hit you on the head, the lack of pavements, bloody mopeds constantly running you down, an inability to cross the road, no driving sense, the fact that every Thai person knows all your intimate **** ups the moment you make them, the fact that every Thai seems to know who you are, whilst you've not got a clue who they are. Etc. Obviously it has compensations, but it's not the paradise island it's portrayed as.

So little to do if the weathers shit? What would you do anywhere ??
At least in Patong you can spend a few hours in your room with your sexy little brown skinned tirak & a few beers
As for the rest of your post. SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT.

The thing is nowheres perfect and after youve stayed/visited a while you begin to see the faults. Unless youre one of those who deludes himself that Phuket is paradise and anyone who criticises it must be attacked as a heretic.

I think its down to whether the postives outweigh the negatives for you, if not so, move on. Krabi interests me, but from what I`ve read there isnt much of a bargirl scene or anything to do except the beaches.

Maybe that will change but it will only change when the mongers start going there and generate demand - catch 22.

OK, one thread closed already this evening because of continual flaming, now another batch of it here. That is enough please.

Still plenty of world for you to explore Paulie. I've been to a few far flung places, some good, some not so good! I guess this place is a combination of a few things, such as, climate, cost, friends and the 'laid back' - no pressure life style.

I've ended up here, could have gone anywhere when all said and done. If I was just coming out for a couple of weeks after several 'couple of weeks' visits then I would definately be looking at where my airline ticket cost could get me.............From the States I am guessing you could go pretty much anywhere you wanted for the price of a ticket here!

See you in August then Paul? 55555555555555555

1. I didn't say the Germans, I said the nazis.

2. I was merely pointing out the irony of a Swede lecturing a Brit for not wanting to see censorship, when his country...maybe, possibly, perhaps...could have done a little more to fight for our freedom.

It was a joke, possibly not a very good one, so I apologise if he took offence.

3. Racist bile? Goodness, what a crazy world we live in!

You have already made several references to the forum and certain BM on the forum as being Nazis. How in the hell is that not racist? If meant only as a joke IMO its a sick one. And for you to come off and say the Sweedes could have done more?? Im sure YOU were not even around for WWII right? So what did you do? Yes its is a crazy over sensitve world we live in.. thats the way it is, but when you start calling out Nazi here and there what do you really expect? For us to take it from a noob like you? You are starting to get on peoples tits. Maybe you should take a break and rethink your position man.

What? No more Ban Yin Dee for yee?

I dont stay in no "Ban Yin Dee's".. The most expensive hotel I stayed in was 2000bt a night on Samui and the others ranged as low as 600bt in the C&N Hotel.. But for everything else it is a hell of a lot more expensive than it used to be, I only realised how expensive it was after my trip to Greece before I went to Thailand, I spent about 700 euro in 8days there and got pissed everynight and brought back presents, My flights, hotels and Insurance only cost me 700euro and that was only because the hotels raised the prices for the final, Otherwise you can half that price...

Compare that to Los, And I spent on average a week about 1300euros (Including hotels) and it cost me nearly a 1000euro for my flights/insurance, This trip alone I have spent nearly 8000euro in 6weeks if I include the presents I brought back which are only about 200/300 euro tops.. Cheap? You call that Cheap? I dont think so!!

Now before I left for los I was thinking this was gonna be my last trip aswell, I was also getting tired of the place, I had seen it all and wanted to start getting my shit together back here, But even after spending all that money, I have to say it was worth every penny and I had a fcuking ball, And it has rekindled my love of Thailand, Last time I left Thailand I felt nothing, This time I didnt want to go home and wish I could go straight back there, Maybe Paul will feel the same, Maybe he wont but there is no need to slag him off just because he has told it the way he see's it, Not really sure what is up with you Tanman, When I met you in person I thought you were a nice guy, But jesus over the last while I have been reading your posts on this board and I have to take a step back and think is this the same guy i met? You sure are not trying to make it easy for people to like you, Actually its more like you want people to dislike you!! And you are doing a really good job of that

If I may interject a personal comment in this handbag swinging tournament.
As an expat in a beautiful corner of Germany I can sum up very briefly why I always go back to to LOS, be it Phuket, Patts or elsewhere there, despite the downsides already mentioned here..
I'm tired of regimentation, high prices, disgruntled people and sh!t weather.
I'm tired of working, I'm due for a pension soon which wouldn't cover my winter heating bills here but is enough for a long stay in LOS.
That's what will keep me going back until I find somewhere better at the price for a good long chill out.

Some people say Americans don't get irony, scarcasm, wit, pith or deftness of touch. Others say they are wholely ignorant of world affairs, particularly European history. Others say they're boring, loud, aggressive and moronic. Others may suggest they are too stupid to be allowed the right to free speech. Others may even suggest they FUNDAMENTALLY misunderstand the nature of this debate, and should perhaps leave it for those of a more learned nature.

I am not one of those people, however, as that would be racist.

Do you mind me asking where in Greece you were able to holiday for those sorts of prices? One of the islands I presume?

PS: I agree with you about Phuket becoming relatively expensive. Fortunately, the cost of getting there is decreasing due to competition in the airline market (eg. Tiger) so we are getting some cost offset from that.
