bored with LOS?
i am heading for Thailand in a week but i have to say, I am not one bit excited
if it wasnt to see my gf and apply for a visa, i wouldnt even be going
this will be my last time in Thailand for a long time. i really like the country, cherish the friends i have made there, but i just want to see more of the world
does anybody else get this bored feeling?

I've seen lots of places around the world and reckon that Thailand has the most to offer for what I want.

I know what you mean. Sometimes it can feel a bit one dimensional but still better than most other countries to settle in.

I'm all booked up for Xmas & New year in Phuket and looking forward to it.
I was going to go to Vegas in September with a few mates but it never worked out, I wasnt that bothered as I wanted to go to LOS anyway, But now just lately I have been looking around the net for somewhere else to go for a change, Maybe Vegas would have been a good break Now I wish i was going there.
LOS is great and the bug can easily catch you, but after while a change is needed.

Hey Paulie, not a bit excited sounds a bit odd to me.
Can I ask you for an honest answer, is there a bit of fear involved about going through the "red tape" to get it all done, bringing your girl back home ? Would you be more excited if you would go alone just for the fun of it ? I remember many discussions about that the past couple of month.
I sincerly hope it all works out for the two of you together.

asking if i would be more excited if i was going alone is a very fair question and i can honestly answer no. most of my previous trips i would lie and get to BKK a few days earlier than advertised and have my fun but i dont really have the desire to do that right now or i would just do like i did previous trips
im truly excited to see my gf and i would say the most excited i am is to head to her home for a few days and hang around with the few of her family that i actually like
this really isnt anything negative against Thailand, i just have a great desire to see other parts fo the world. i have already told my gf that if we end up living in Canada together i will not be one of those guys that takes all his holiday time to Thailand. she understands i want to see other parts of the world. i will give her the option to join me on my trips or go home to thailand. either way works for me

perhaps it's just the way you've approached it. I know you've spent a lot of time in thailand but a lot of that was in patong, I tend to flit between various asian countries - Thailand (different places), Myanmar/Burma, Laos, Sing , Hong Kong and others to keep it all interesting, although go back to LOS in between.
Sounds like you're almost ready to settle down and that's a good thing....
Anyway, once you get to LOS you will enjoy and shake off all this jaded shit .......
so, have a good time ...... and keep us informed

I think after a while, the initial excitement of getting away to LOS fades.
Those first few trips are great, but then it becomes same same.
Some people take a lot more trips for this feeling, but eventually it will.
Its a big wide world out there, and I plan to see more than LOS before I wear the pine overcoat. I haven't even seen very much of Europe yet, and its on my doorstep, so to speak.

Exitement i dont know, but having been there numerous times now, i starts to know the rules..
If i look at Patong and Phuket, it feels like i done it now.. Fun to go and visit friends and play some golf, but to stay more then 4-5 day i dont think i will do...
To me its now more relaxing to come to a country that i started to know more about, and be able to see things not a normal tourist see, ie. go upcountry to non-tourist places..

i'm not yet bored with LOS but i asked myself the same question if it will get boring one day...
i met some great BM's in patong and could imagine to visit other countries with some of those guys or maybe visit the country they live in. sure some fun times could be had everywhere when the right people are around

Sure, not suggesting you haven't been around but for me there's always a certain combination of places, countries, experiences that keeps me interested....
the key i guess is finding that - I'm happiest in a combo of GF's village and Udon - often both in the same day.

I would love to read your trip report, especially the village one, marc26!
Hubby has a few Thai university mates and at least one of them is from Suphanburi.

I truly understand that. As I would love to travel to other places than Indonesia, when we have the resources to do so. Not that I don't miss my family or the food, but I simply want to see other parts of the world.
It'd be very nice if she has the same desire as yours (seeing other parts of the world, I think? Well.. for me, at least, I'd be very happy if my hubby has the same desire to see the world, as I do.

Tour report from Marc26. 55555555555555555555555555, he's too busy holding glasses full of booze in both hands. And his lady has his vacation all planned out already.

You never lived here for a year as I am aware of, when?
That said, nothing wrong to visit other countries. Europe is way too expensive for me, I do think Thailand is great because of the good value compared to lot of other countries. Holidaying in Europe is not cheap these days. Thats a part of Asia's success.

I've been fortunate in living both in Europe and North America. I visited my brother in Korea a few times before he convinced me to try LOS and I agree with Nicke that you dollar goes alot further.
I do have a good friend with a house in El Salvador that he's been trying to get me to visit so maybe next year.
