Houllier faces salvage act
Billionaire Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra wants to make a bid for Liverpool after his failed attempt to buy Fulham last year.
Thawatchai Satchakul, the coach of the Thai national team, is advising Shinwatra on the bid.

He said: "I believe the prime minister already had his aides checking Liverpool's financial position.

"He is now in the process of deciding whether to bid for Liverpool. It should be a bigger club (than Fulham)."


Satchakul also advised Thaksin on his attempt to buy Fulham.

On that occasion Thaksin, who made his money in the telecommunications industry, failed because Mohamed Al Fayed did not want to sell.

"His feeling now is similar to that five or six months ago when Fulham was in the picture. If you visualised him doing shopping in a store.

"I would say the prime minister's eyes are now fixed on Liverpool," Thawatchai said.

Well I hope the British authorities give him some of the same rules that he applies to expats, like having to do a visa run every thirty days, employing four British people for every foreign work permit issued (that could make a change to the Livedrpool line up :-)

As a foreigner he wouldn't be able to own more than 1 rai of land - how big is Anfield?

"Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is thought to have reached an agreement to buy a sizeable stake in Liverpool.
Liverpool chief Rick Parry has been in the Far East to hold talks with Shinawatra over a possible investment into the club.

Talks are believed to have progressed smoothly and a spokeman for the Thai government has claimed an agreement has been reached between both parties.

Spokesman Jakrapob Penkair revealed Shinawatra revealed the deal at a Cabinet meeting although he refused to reveal details of the agreement.

"It's almost 100 percent," said Penkair. "Both sides are confident we will make the announcement.

"As far as we are concerned, we have finished the process."

Telecommunication tycoon Shinawatra is thought to have purchased a 30 percent stake in the club with the deal thought to be worth in the region £65 million for the club.

Liverpool have refused to confirm whether or not a deal has been agreed and will only make an announcement when a deal is concrete.

The investment will provide a major boost to Liverpool as Gerard Houllier is likely to be given extra money into his transfer kitty for summer reinforcements as he looks to close the gap on the top three in The Premiership.
