What happened to your plans of living at Koh Samui?
You asked a few similar questions back in October 06.

You have had lengthy answers to a very similar question you asked last October.
The only thing that's changed is....it's Phuket now not Samui.

Assume £ 'cos his location is High Wycombe. But everyone is different. Some guys can blow that in a couple of months if they keep busy day and night, others can last a year if they do very little. Been discussed to great lengths on several occassions.

10K sterling is 20,000 USD. Last year the expats here said that one could live for a year in Phuket for that much, with a GF, and 2 or 3 times a week at the bars. Now it gets you only 8 or 10 months! If people used the search engine to answer that question and got info from even 6 months ago, they could be sadly misinformed!
And it is funny how many guys come on here planning their retirement in 10 or 20 years, figuring what it will cost at today's rates. We don't even know what it will cost 12 months from now, let alone in 10 years.

That's beautiful, I remember saying the same thing to myself after my first trip in 04. I will save this much $$ and so on. But, as I did the numbers reality put me in my place. The illusion quickly faded.

So, you're 33 years old, thinking of taking a break from work. You've got 10K to spend. Go and see how long it lasts. After 3 month you've got it figured out if it really lasts for 9 or 10 month and you can adjust your spendings to it.
At a point where you are willing to break up your career anyway and have a break, what do you have to lose ? 1 or 2 month more or less ? You either go home earlier or later.
Just go and have fun if you are up to it.

I assume that 10k is set aside before the "inevitable break up" and the missus doesn't get her hands on her half of it. 55555
Whatever, if you are careful, you could eke it out for nearly a year if you are prepared not to party like a single man most nights. Good luck anyway.

One of Duncans friends lived here for 6 months and took 3k back with him out of his £5k he brought over.
He lived with a girl in her place, no rent, ate off food stalls and supplemented his income with a little bit of casual work.
Extreme example maybe? but stop thinking like tourists, £10k could last him ages, just depends on his life style, could blow it in 5 minutes, depends on so many things.
I'd plump for the latter though in most blokes cases!!! some tirak will get her mits on most of that!!!

If you were to stay in Patts longer than any of the Islands as there alot more expensive 10 k i would say around 1 year maximum, but it all depends on your lifestyle ladys/katoey whatever floats your boat.

If you want a bungalow on/close to the beach, you will have to pay more then 15000/month. At least if you plan to live close to any of the "tourist" beaches.
I think IJ was more thinking about a room back on Nanai road or similar...
