no they just have "don't care how much clothing as long as minimal 1" beaches and for woman that means a big 1 or 2 smaller as 1 small is not really done in Thailand.

For the thai it means just wearing the same as on the street. Why change

No. Naturist beaches are not looked upon kindly in Thailand. Thai girls aren't keen on being seen topless on the beach either, although some western women still do so.

I recall reading some obscure info in 2005 that suggested nude bathing took place at the isolated southern end of Nai Harn beach and a Thai lady who does sun bath topless on Patong beach (my eyes can confirm that) told me she goes nude on the long isolated beach up by the airport

but basically from what I understand its against the law so you run a risk legally and culturally - so up to you

I remember being on Lamai beach in Samui once when this American girl came and sat down next to the Hotel Beds at the Lamai Beach Hotel and she just stripped off, she was stunning early 20's and completely naked

I had to keep looking just to make sure that she was not wearing one of those skin coloured thongs, but no there she sat bold as brass, and I watched this procession of men almost falling over themselves and bumping into each other when they saw her.

This doesn't happen every day mind you and you do get European women going topless and it generally is frowned upon but no one says anything.

Nube bathing is not really on unless you want to find one of the secluded beaches or rent a speedboat and go to one of the Islands.

If this is all you are after your would be better of at Heddonism or Heddonism II in Jamaica, which has one half of the Hotel where being nude all the time is compulsory, but it is also a 'swingers resort' so beware you may end up with the Keys to some size ''28'' whale from the US when the music stops and you have to swop car keys

yeah, I don't care to be the Ugly American breaking all the cultural taboo. there are enough monkeys representing poorly that I don't need to add to their numbers. and Hedonism isn't exactly my thing. I guess if my girlie wants to get nekkid we'll take your suggestion bout the boats. thanks!

Actually there IS a naturist beach/ naturist club on the island and they meet reguarly. Yes it is mainly europeans but there are also some Thai girls that go.

No I'm not a member, nor joined them but have been to the particular beach.

Do a few google searches and you will find it if interested in joining in.

Club Med (Kata) and Nai Harn plenty of pale whales on show. Not considered very respectful in Buddhist country and is officially illegal although fine IIRC is 200 Baht.

When in Rome do as the Romans do, it would be considered very disrespectful by the majority of Thais. Their country their rules I guess. Most Thais I have met would be too polite to be outspoken if you did, but I doubt they would appreciate it.

Kev read the link given by Gregor as it is expats more than tourists. Agree about the disrespectful bit but on the beach in question there are very few locals and it is in a very uninhabited part of the island.

Interesting to note recently a large developer asked for permission to build a nudist colony near Rawaii on a very large area of land, think it was 100++ rai, hotel, club etc all walled and private but permission was declined.

Understand the Thais attitude to nudity but does in not seem a little contradictory when they allow nudity behind closed doors in go go's, they allow prostitution, are considering casino's, all illegal here. For a few bahts almost anything seems to get passed by planners or authorities, but when there was millions of bahts on offer they declined.

I think it is more what is just tolerated & ignored vs. what is endorsed. If they come out in favor of a nudist camp, then they can get a lot of flack. But if those guys just built the resort and privately and quietly allowed nudity then it would have likely been tolerated.
