I don't have credit card, to avoid bringing cash i want to use travellers cheque.
Is it widely accepted in Phuket?
how about restaurants, bars, shops do they accept it.
If not I should consider to apply for credit card.
TQ

It is easy to exchange travelers' cheques at the money changers, which you will find everywhere. I don't know how easy it is to cash them at the merchants and service providers, but using the money changer you should not need to.

If you change Travellers cheques in shops/restaurants/hotels you do not get as good a rate as money changers.
Yesterday I got 34.34 Baht to $1 USD Travellers Cheques in BKK.

Hi guys, I dont have a card at the minute due to a problem with the bank are travellers cheques still ok and plenty of places to change them?
If say you want to bring a £1000 for example, what's the best way 10 100s, 5 200s etc?

Sorry mate I'm not flaming you but I had to look back to the op and see that it wasn't you posting the same thing twice.
I won't say 'use the search engine' I'll just suggest reading this thread.
Your second question, I reckon 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, but go for 10 x 100's, gives more flexibility.
Best advice go get a credit card, takes only a few weeks, can get whatever cash you want, when you want it from any ATM and pay it off when you get home.

The info in the thread is still applicable. Plenty of moneychangers will change travellers cheques. Don't forget to take your passport when you change them, or you will be refused. You need I.D.
As Dodger suggested, take 10 x £100 and remember that if you change one into Thai baht, you will lose out if you take any unused baht back to the UK with you to exchange back into sterling. Thats why its best to take some cash to change, or use an ATM.

And take at least two Credit Cards, MC & Visa, in case one get nicked or eaten by the ATM when your pi$$ed.
Most Importantly, make sure the issuing Banks has enabled your Credit Cards to be used internationally.
I lost one card in 2003 to the Thai Farmers Bank for a few days because a particular dickhead at the ANZ neglected to tell me that my new super wanking "goldcard" was not registered to use OS. This joker was the same fella that sold me my travellers cheques, and suggested I should see Patts! Unbelievable!!
Did I give that tossa a spray!!!!

When I was home in UK I noticed that the Post Office offer a Tavel Cash Card for holidays.I believe that you just have to go do a holiday account and put your money in it.They issue a card to use as your ATM money abroad.

The Post Office Travel card is an expensive way of taking your money to Thailand.
They charge £10, for the card. Charge you 1.5% to top your card up in Sterling. Then when you make a withdrawal in Thailand there will be a 2.75% charge to convert your sterling to Baht, plus another £2 charge per withdrawal.
Compare this with getting Traveller’s Cheques from the Post Office. It costs 1.5% commission when you buy the Traveller’s Cheques and it will cost you 33 baht at Siam Commercial Bank to cash each cheque.

Try and get a bank VISA debit card if is offered by your bank. I have had one for years and only minor problems. Be sure it is authorized for overseas use.
