Thai Language school in Patong
Hi folks,
Anyone here try Phuket Language School before for learning Thai?
I was quoted 3 months of tuition at 1 lesson/day at 19,500 baht. Good deal or not?
Or does anyone have experience with any other schools in the area? Thanks.

Tried it in 2003 - I think, booked 20 lessons (10+10). First teacher, miss Mai was great, a really good teacher - then she left and the next teacher was no good for me, absolutely no patience and I gave up.
One thing to watch out for is the books are extra cost to the lessons.

Not really, BG usually do not speak what is considered 'polite' Thai...or so my middle class TGF tells me.
Try Text and Talk Academy, Ph 076 294 486, 081272 8805 , 15 Prachnukhro Rd, Patong. I don't know what they charge but from dealing with them about some translation work I know they're honest and diligent.
There are some good books out there, also CDs (peng-peng) and internet sites (free) for pronunciation practice.
If anybody wants it, I have the excellent book 'Thai for Beginners' by the quadrilingual-lingual Kh Benjawan Poomsan-Becker in SFO, 270 p ages, excellent condition and a EN>TH>EN pocket dictionary (beat up, but now out of print and hard to find) with phonetic Thai pronouciation for sale, as I am leaving TH, together THB300, pick up in Chalong near Land & House. PM if interested, also an almost new DVD player, THB700.

Patong Language School is fine to be used in conjunction with practical everyday speaking, ie very good for basics.
A tip would be to learn to read and write at the same time to get the pronounciation correct.
One thing to watch for is that you must dictate the lesson in so much as it doesn't develop into an english lesson for your teacher.
