excuse me, can you define north thailand a little bit? because there is forums for the major regional centres both in north east and north thailand.
have you also tried the british embassy in bangkok?

Have you tried checking with immigration? There would have to be a record of his stay in Thailand. Even if he has a 1 year visa, he still has to check in at least once every three months. That would also give his address.

7 MONTHS is a long time without any contact.
Try getting the ChiangMai Newspaper to publish his photo and request for info>>>
ChiangMai Citylife - - Life in Chiang Mai, Thailand
...and post on all the ChiangMai forums.
Wouldn't hurt to put his photo up here too....someone might recognise/remember having seen him.

he sold his house here in the uk and went to live with his thai girlfriend, but he used to keep in touch with me via email and msn. he also had a fair bit in the bank and that is still going down via ATM machines. nobody has heard from him in the uk since end of december when he was ment to come back as of visa problems.

That is also something to worry about!
Now creditcards are stolen a lot in Thailand. Normally, you would have to check where the money is taken of the account, that sure would help. If your brother is ok, he should have made opposition at the bank.
So either something has happened to him, either he has decided to cut himself off the rest of the world for a strange reason.
Now if there was a way to revoke his card, then he would run out of money, or have him make a complaint at the bank, that would maybe make him show up.....

That was my idea too, but, is there a pattern in the ATM, like the same place, or random, all over Thailand.
Like if the ATM's are all used in Karon, would be worth to look for him there!
Let us know how this turns out! I hope for you it does well!

Yes and if the ATM's were used in Karon, people like you or BM's in the area, could look for him!
Better, go to:
ImageShack® - Hosting
Upload a good picture
Resize it for boards
Share the picture here.
I will mail it to some friends in Karon/Kata, as I hang out there too, when I am in Phuket, and some of my friends are living there permanently, and I can not only ask them if they know him, but they can mail the picture to other people they know around the area!

I am sure you could either get the Phuket gazette to run a pic and text or take out an advert in there to achieve the same.. Much wider reach.

Yes, that is for sure, but neither will not do any harm!
My friends do not read "phuket gazette", but go out every night, so both could lead to something, you never know!
First look, where the money has been taken out of the ATM regulary and search in that particular area. That could be Chiang Mai, BKK, or ...anywhere!

If there's anything I can do for you, hand out flyers, check with resturant and bar owners, etc, just send me a message, I'll do what I can.

ThaiVisa and baht and sold may also be able to help you.. I would try contacting the admins of both sites as they have email mailing lists that go out to a large % of the farang community here.
