Can you have someone open a bank account for you in Thailand without you actually being there?

The original query was "Can you open a bank account without actually being in Thailand"
In short the answer is no, you need to go to the bank in person and supply the required identification, the same as you would in a bank in your home country.

I believe there is only one bank in Thailand that will let you open an account with out a work permit? Why bother...I don't believe deposits are insured...
