Suggestions to hotel operators

I though it could be a good thread for us to offer hotel/guesthouse owners our recommendations/experiences.

I have a few in mind based on what I hear from BMs...
  • Hotels with WIFI: Use more than one wireless access point to give good coverage to all rooms, e.g. top floors. Its a small investment and many AP:s have these linking capabilities
  • Why not provide a DVD player in each room? You can get for around ~1000 baht these days, and give you more happy customers
  • Safety box big enough for a notebook, as more and more people travel with a computer (current topic in another thread)

a very good idea Nicke - some owners could learn a great deal from your forum - plus if they were really clever they could 'sponsor' one or more areas.

Good idea then we could watch some of those DVD's we buy on the street when We're laying around................

Wondering how many hotel owners in Patong read this board ...

IMO you nailed 2 of the biggest. Another one for me is big towels ... hate the tiny ones many hotels issue.

I really like the DVD player idea. It's a small investment, but in the long run would pay itself. You decide to stay in one night, get your food and drink from the Mini-bar say total spending approximately 100 baht. Not a lot, but after that's been done 10 times your making profit.

Mr DK's suggestion is a very good idea. I usually bring my own large towel because hotel towels are too small generally.

I'd like to see the removal of glass top coffee tables from the rooms.

After having a bender of a night thanks to Geir,Trent & Nicke, I now know what a piece of glass costs.

Luckily for me, Billpay is a good guy/owner & he didn't stick it up me, with the replacement cost.

A discount for regular customers, complimentary condoms in the room and options to buy more from the reception. Book libraries where you can drop off your in flight book and browse a few others left by other guests, maybe same with Dvd's. Party's 3 mights a week to get to know your fellow hotel guests. Discount tours offered from reception with advice.Day trips round the island.

Creche's to look after expats naughtly one year old mini men, especially stopping them from smacking your keyboard when your typing stuff!!!

Kleenex double quilted toilet paper, an elevator(OK not so easy to get one installed), perhaps even a hotel tuk tuk, which can drop you off anywhere within such a radius, for the cost of a tip to the driver.
Maybe some adult related channels.

Excellent topic.

For me:

Help finding "honest" transportation. Meter taxis if hotel is in BKK. Good airport p/u's at HKT.

Agree - large digital safe boxes.

Help finding affordable motorbike and car rentals with honest vendors.

Hotel operators - take a personal interest in your guests. Welcome them. Ask them how things are going. Thank them for their buisness.

CLEAR explanations of hotel prices and add-ons (such as 10+% fees and holiday charges)

Fair deposit and cancellation terms that are clearly explained on web sites, emails, and/or paperwork.

Unlike one hotel in Patong, inform guests on arrival or on booking if credit cards (visa/mastercard) are not acceptable to settle the final bill.

Can be a little embarrassing for both guest and hotel otherwise.

The odd 'servicable' fire extinquisher dotted around the place would be a useful addition to some hotels. Checked one the other day (No names mentioned) last serviced and filled 1997.

Suggest to Safari Beach to anchor the safety box. I could pick mine up and run off with it.

Probably too much to ask for, but the hotels guest policy mentioned somewhere on their website. Saves everyone asking.

Great thread and some nice suggestions.

Maybe the hotel can provide free transport from/to airport for regular guest.

Having a safety-deposit box in the room is probably my No.1 suggestion.

I'd also love for each room to have a very cheap digital clock on the bedside - just so I know what time it is when I roll over. (I always bring my own).

Water pressure in some of the older guesthouses can always be a bit problematic. Never have a shower at 6pm is my experience!

This one is a bit selfish, but I wish more hotels had the Australia Network on the in-house television channel menu.

For places which have breakfast included in the price, an 11am cut-off would be nice. All hotels should also be willing to negotiate a lower room rate if someone doesn't want to have breakfast as part of their package.

Very cute housekeeping staff!

24 hour room service

This reservation site has that info, but probably best to check w/the hotel also.

For me the room must have a safety box if I am going to stay there any length of time. I like the wifi suggestion and prefer FREE! I stayed at a place last year expecting to use the wifi but it was something like 400 bt per day! Needless to say I gave it a pass and used an internet cafe.
