Can asians think is interesting and readable.. The next 2 I listed are more academic and dry and less worth purchasing (but might be worth a library look if your in UK) they also felt like scientific rascism to me. One thing I dd think had merit tho was that theres a feedback loop in that high IQ = high GDP = Better diet and education = higher IQ, obviously the opposite for the other direction.. The last one 'Geography of Thought' was very interesting..
In any discussion like this theres multiple elements.. Theres the genetic issue (they cannot find any single gene in the human genome that maps intelligence) and then theres the social issue. Certainly collectivism v individualism has a big role and is a social construct.

I just wanted to put a different angel on the intelligence question and would like to raise the question:
"How intelligent are most of you in your conversations (and behaviour - aka sexy pole-dancers) after days of non-stop drinking"
That's an open question, and I know of many instances where I for myself wouldn't be able to discuss even the way back home, wouldn't it for the intelligent girls to show me 55555

It depends on, as you say, what you define intellegence as!
I thought that the whole question of IQ score defining ones intellegence has been pretty much quashed as an ultimate decider on the issue. It has always been a very Middle class, western defined questions and responces that decide your score on alot of the areas it covers.
Would any of you consider me intellegent when you first (or second) meet me? I dont think many of you would, as I just sit in he corner of the bar and not say much. Maybe I am less intellegent than most of you, I don't know nor care. But would I assume that a another BM or a BG is 'stupid' becuase he/she doesnt talk about issues I know about or shared social experiences.
OK, I have met other here that I think are not the brightest but the fact is that they are out here (BM's) at least shows that have have some idea of the rest of the world an desire to experience it. Is this intellegence??? Maybe not, but shows alot more thought processes than alot of people who I know at home who would never consider going outside there own experiences, let alone Asia: because its "dirty", or the food rubbish etc etc. Although many of these people would be able to talk more knowingly about world events and history than the BG's, but thats due to the education system.
But lets face it! The fact is that you were communicating with the TG in your own language, shows that the girl must have reasonably good intellegence to do it in the first place. Then there is all the other languages that she can speak bits off to consider..................
P.S. How is your hand after Friday?

I read through most of this thread, I was gonna put on some experience about a BG telling me how in school they are taught how well known the King is through the world.
These BGs might be dumber than us, but they are good at getting our money. How many stories have you heard of a farang man giving up a thick wad of cash to a sweet innocent chicca? Anywhere else in the world that's called a confidence scheme.
Enjoy

well I would say cunning is a form of intelligence...and I have met quite a few cunning BG's in my time
If I want to discuss Proust I call someone I know who has read and understands Proust
If I want to discuss architecture/design/business I pick up the phone to a colleague
If I want a holiday where I can drink + party and meet beautiful girls everynight who accept me as just another Joe.....I go to LOS
every life has its comapartments

If we are smarter, why is it that she is one that has to speak to us in a foreign language?
Maybe she can talk all the politics, world events and quantum theory you want, trouble is your Thai is not up to it. Enjoy.

Interesting topic.
In response to the original question, the answer is a resounding NO.
But then again, I've never had a 'relationship' in LOS which has progressed beyond "Stage 1". If I was interested in a life-long partner, it would be an important consideration.

Sorry Ben.. But not close..
Thai IQ testing is low average (bottom 90's) as a national.. In the north thats down to an IQ of 88 and 16.4 % of children in the north are actually classed as retarded on the measurement.
Thats not me.. Thats a piece in the Nation !!!
|
The IQ disparancy is probably down to wealth and schooling, fewer wealthier people here and lots and lots of farmers who had 5-6 years of schooling, if its an average then 5 farmers at an IQ of 75 are going to bring 3 people of IQ 100 and one exceptionally intelligent person down to that baseline.
Besides I'm not sure if IQ tests are a good judge, since its really about logic and I believe intelligence is more than just that.

IQ testing should not be about education, its about logic, deduction and inference, pattern recognition, pattern projection, spatial awareness, etc etc..
A smart street kid who cant read and write should score thier intelligence quotient irrelevant of their education on a well design IQ test.. Tho I agree nothing is perfect.

I don't think that Asians think in such straight line terms as logic dictates though.
I'm sure Thai's would score very highly on the Emotional Intelligence side of things, perhaps its just that logic comes second to keeping the status quo socially.
We Farangs tend to think in very definite X + Y = Z terms, where even very intelligent Thais think in a much less restrictive manner (to put it nicely).
Also how much does language effect an IQ test, the Thai language is very undescriptive and illogical, with the same word meaning 30 different things sometimes irregardless of its place in a sentance, conversation etc... does this lack of definition in the language make it more difficult do you think?
