Thumbs down No More Patong Visa Extensions!!!

Today a customer went to the Patong Beach Immigration office for his 30 day extension on his 60 day Visa. The Thai Official told him to do it in Phuket Town.

He asked around in Valhalla and the Ex Pat and this has recently happened others too.I did mine on Patong only two weeks ago but they had their computer removed and had to fax everthing to Phuket Immigration and wait for a return fax before signing me in.Needless to say this is a pain in the ar$e to both offices and it looks like they have found a "Thai solution."

So,for the meantime all extensions have to be done in the main office in Phuket town.Let's hope they get their replacement computer soon.

Strange, as extension were all they did there..

Used to be you could go see them about anything, visa advice, annual extensions etc.. Then they dropped the more advanced stuff (12 month long stay extensions) then midsummer they wouldnt even do a residency proof for a driving licnse, the only thing they would do is process the (massive) queue for 1900 baht 30 day (or 7) extenions, nothing else I could see..

If the are not doing that I wonder whats left. Certainly a lot less friendly if they cant process tourists in a tourist town.. Lots harder for short stay people to go hunting the phuket town office..

No surprise.

It seems to fit right in with the "general" plan! (pun intended)

Scriw the farang's....who wants them.

Maybe it has something to do with the Phuket Town office wanting some of the "tea money" that the Patong office gets from the tourists???? (last time I was in there, they seemed to be doing very well, thank you!!!) ( ~100bht per customer, iIrc)

can any of the bms give just a little bit of general direction/location to the phuket town office just for future reference if ever needed.

maybe the boys at the patong office have been doing to well for the boys in town to get a little bit jealous.

Phuket town Immigration office is on Phuket Road. The office is sign posted so not too difficult to find.

If coming from Patong head to Central junction then into Phuket town towards Sapan Hin (down Thepkasatri Road which then becomes) Phuket Road before the boxing statium, the office is under construction and they are currentlly operating out of a tempory office to the right as you enter the compound.

They use a ticket system (machine just beside the door) with the queues and I think its an improvement. Not been asked for tea money for more than 10 years.

Not a good sign though that Patong no longer doing extensions.

thanks for those directions, been out on that way a couple of times, shouldnt be too hard too find, if i need it, last time i did it, it was a quick visit to the patong office (crazy to finish that service).
from talking to some expats up-north it seems the way they operate at each office seems to differ slightly.

Anyone who's never been Phkt Town Imm office dont expect a smile, a wai, a sawasdee-kap, a can i help you or fcuk all. Dont bother getting a queue number cos its a waste of time and expect loads of Koreans and Japs to push their way in front of you.

In a nutshell its probably the most hostile place i've ever been in Phuket and not a pleasant experience...

Will stick my head in the Patong ofice next week to get a heads up. Guys in there have always been OK and helpful with me. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing and not permanent.

I have only been there once and I thought I caught them on a bad day. You couldn't have put it better as thats exactly what my experience was like too.

Really pissed me off the way certain people just cruised up to the top of the queue and the officers didn't bat an eyelid, although they seemed to know the individuals but thats still no excuse for them jumping the queue.

I had to go in there as it was during some public holidays or something and the Patong Office was shut. Not looking forward to the next trip into Phuket Town for another extension but I guess its a necessary evil. It could be worse though, we could be freezing our balls off back in Europe!!

Yep for my last extension I went to Patong, thinking it would be the easiest, but they had a sign up saying they only do extensions on Mondays and Fridays. I think I was there last on a Friday, so I probably never noticed if the rule was already in force then. The guy was just sitting there in the empty office doing nowt with his feet up on the table and reading the paper! And I had to get back on the bleedin bike and go all the way to Phuket Town, where I arrived at 12:05, which is when the staff go out to lunch for an hour. Sat around for an hour waiting. And they are not friendly, as has been stated... The Patong office used to do the photocopies for you and all that, the Phuket Town office does no such thing, so just bear that in mind before you get in the queue. I was not a happy bunny as the trip I had thought would take maybe 1.5 hours total took me 3.5 hours to do! Grh.

they have to pay for the new building they are doing in phuket city (that's what we are meant to call it now apparently) somehow (same site)

though they also have a plasma tv now

anyway just thought i'd mention about the residency certificate - you don't get this from the main building - its from the little building on the right as you enter from the road (you will see a desk outside the 'service' window)

Cool Good service at Phuket Immigration

Today two elderly Americans went over to Phuket Immigration Office and did their Visa Extensions. They came back full of praise as to how friendly and helpful the officers who dealt with them were.

They confirmed that you have to supply three items of photocopy. These are your Passport Identity page, the page with your Thai entry stamp, and a copy of your TM Card. All three must be on separate pages. They got those done in an office just next door.

The two gents were in and out within 15 minutes and were very happy. It seems they have a seperate desk to only deal with extensions.

They asked if the Patong Office would return to doing it but the officers did not know.

The arrival/departure card you complete on arrival to Thailand.

The departure part is stapled in your passport by immigration - all subsequent visa changes will reference this (TM) card (number).

Went by the Patong Immigration Office yesterday during my walk over to Kamala. There are 2 laminated signs on the window that clearly state extensions will be dealt with on MONDAY and FRIDAY between 1000 and 1500hrs (don't forget they break for lunch between 1200 and 1300). Notiifications to stay over 90 days will be dealt with on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. I'll put this to the test on the 8th of Oct- wait out.

Here's how it is as of today. I went down 1000 on the dot, first person in. Filled in the form, handed over appropriate photocopies, photo and fee. Was told to come back after lunch to collect passport even though he'd already put the stamps in- something to do with the main office in Phuket City, guess they faxing the paperwork over befor returning passports. Out of there and back on motorbike for 1004. Back at 1400 picked up passport no problemo. Be aware that extensions are now ONLY on Monday and Friday. The guys were a bit quiet but pleasant enough and OK with me- they seemed as hacked off as everyone else with what is going on at the moment. The only thing I've noticed is that I have been given 31 days instead of 30 and as its always our fault will go out the day before so there's no hassle.

Small wonder as if they made everybody go to Phukettown for everything, they'd be out of a job!

TV post confirming what they told me regarding marriage extensions ... 400K in bank no longer permitted from Oct 1st this year - regardless of how long you have been doing extensions under this system.

Really things becoming a total mess with ad hoc interpretation of Police Order 606 just seemingly at will.

Send a message via ICQ to Nicke
Does this include retirement visas too, with 800k?
