BG retreat in Temple?
Hi guys
Does anbody have an experience with a TL who announces that she will not be reachable by mobilephone during the next two month because she will be in a temple?
I am a little confused about, I always thought that temples are for male only. The story is this:
I met this girl this February in Patong, she is from the NE Isaan, Khong Khae, her parents are farming. I spent a couple of days with her and we had a really good time, i honestly like her and I told her I want to learn her better before I would invite her to my country.
Soon after I left she went back to her hometown. We kept contact by mail and phone (often), I was talking about coming back to Thailand in August for 1 week, this was always ok.
When I spontaneously decided I will come already in May or June or July she said this will not be possible because she is going to the temple (she told me before she plans to do so only in July) and suddenly mid of May she sent an SMS telling me she is leaving the next day. Of course she wrote she will think about me all the time, missing me, aso. Since that day her mobile is switched off (callback-service).
I am usually not a complete fool or naive, only ay little bit, so I am full of doubts what I shall think about. Of course I will wait until Agust and go to see her but I wonder about your opinion.
What do you think about?

Hi Chris X,
I know a lot of male Thai people live in a temple for a short or long period once in their life. I don't know if it's sae ame for women, but in fact, I guess you BG/GF is now with a customer who stay long time with her. I dont believe that a BG is able to leave her job to go in a temple for some weeks, it's really not the same life.
Go when you planned to go and dont tell her you go, and you will see whats happen. How long did you stay with her ? May be you can also ask one of the board memebers to go and see in her bar if she's still there ... and dont be afraid to be disappointed.
But I must add I would like to go 1 month or 2 with the monks in my country because they make beer and cheese

without her mobile?
yes, shure this are my ideas. but a TG without her mobile?
and anther question: do you believe Thais lie conciously? because on different occasions I asked her why to tell the truth to someone and her answer was: I cannot lie, sorry (in an absolute credible way, I was not concerned at all)
you see, many pros and cons. still let me have your opinion.
thanks

Liar or not ?
I cannot speak about your GF, but I met a BG who lied me everytime when I was back home. She told me her mobile phone was "broken" but I know she was with another man even if she told me she didn't work anymore, she tld me she had problems with police and I had to send her money but she had no problem, etc ...
On my last trip, I staid 1 week with a girl who tell me she never lies and she needs her work so she will go with men. She looks honnest but I stay careful.

To find out the truth
The best thing to do is to turn up unexpected, ie tell her you believe she is going to the temple and you are going in August, then turn up when you feel like it, then pay a visit to her bar or one close by within viewing range and see if she is there or if she has been bar fined etc, it may hurt to catch her out but it will save a lot of grief later, and if she is in the temple at least she won't find out what you get up to, till at least she gets out lol,i may be completely wrong but that is what i would do coz shes probably got a steady string of boyfriends if she is good looking, and shes probably trying to fit you in when it suits her,

Even thai girls go to the temple for some periods. It is not unuasel. My wife went also to the temple for a period of 1 or 2 months. In that time I couldn`t contact her. Altough she sometimes phoned me when she had time for it.
BTW here`s a picture that prooves that there are temples where ladies go.
Offcourse you never can be sure. So show up unexpected or try to find someone who can check this out for you.

As I said before sting, I don't correct transliteration.
However since you are looking for approval your spelling of 'mae chii' was perfect.

Temples
Chrisx
There are many reasons why Thai girls go to the temple. Usually it is a penance or for "good luck". I know of one BG who had a run in with the boys in brown and had to go to the temple and clean Buddha for a month. The thai temples have a masonic like secrecy and it is hard to find out what goes on inside but it is early rising, praying, working, praying, eating working, praying sleeping. No mobile phones!! It is quite likely that your GF is doing her time... At least in my humble opinion. Nevertheless a quick check on her bar can do no harm!

It's 15 days, and the hair comes off.
And mobile phones are allowed, just there usage is restricted, its not like imprisonment.

I'm always fascinated by the prevalence of Buddhism in LOS. Most places have a little Buddha shrine somewhere, usually on a high shelf, and the beer bars are no exception. If you walk round the sois in early evening you'll often see the girls lighting a joss stick and saying a little prayer, for plenty of big spending punters to come their way that night. And if you see a BG with one of those little string wristbands that they wear, it means she's visited a temple recently. According to the harsh, guilt ridden rules of Christianity, it would probably be seen as blasphemy, but the Buddhist way of seeing things doesn't have a problem with it. And quite rightly so!
Last time I was in Patong I decided to go to the big local temple one day. I was having breakfast in one of the cafes and two LBs turned up that I knew. They were still in their very sexy evening clothes, on their way home from the night shift. I told them where I was going and they said on the spot that they'd come with me.
The temple is a beautiful, tranquil place, well worth a visit next time you're there. It's only about 20 minutes drive from Patong. Just so you know the score when you get there, there's a little shop selling offerings like incense, fruit and flowers. You're supposed to buy something and offer it to Buddha at one of the shrines, but how much you pay is up to you.
Anyway, we had a wander around and found ourselves in one particularly amazing little temple. I used to be really into meditation when I was a starry eyed youth, so I sat down and started to do some in there. So did the LBs. We were in there for nearly an hour. It was quite powerful and we felt really good afterwards. But I think the other visitors were taken aback to walk in there and find two sexy LBs and a fat old farang, all in the lotus position!

But Chris X, as for your original question - sorry mate, but I think you'd better start repeating the following mantra: 'there are plenty more where that one came from!'

Hi Paddy,
