Patong Traffic

When I was in Patong at Christmas the traffic flow had been changed since my earlier visit. The traffic seemed to flow much better and seemed to be a lot less hassle. Have the changes been kept and has it had any effect on things like tuk tuk prices (not that I use them if at all possible).

The one way rule is still in place & I think I'm right in saying, that it's there to stay.
Crossing Rat-U-Thit is still a major concern.......There'll be a death before the Thais implement traffic lights for pedestrian crossings....Pity

Minimum charge for a tuk-tuk is 150b....Before the changes was 100b

Crossing Rat U Thit is tough. My Thai friend had to become my crossing guard as I am not used to roads like this. I noticed a similar thing while crossing the road in Shanghai; the cross walk means nothing as far as pedestrian rights go. You just have to get out of the way or hope they stop.

Its about time they burnt out the zebra crossings on Rat-u-thit road because no fcuker takes any notice of them..... if the Thai's see a farang crossing they speed up not slow down...... desperately in need of a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights before a fatality happens

Patong to Remain One-Way
Patong’s one-way goes all the way

I agree, wish they would remove those zebra crossings, because a lot of tourists think that they have the same rights as in their own countries and just step out. When they nearly get run over, they stare nasty at the driver pointing at the black and white stripes, sorry this rule does not apply here!!!

I usually cross at top of Bangla nad find with the railings in the centre it makes things a bit easier and drivers seem to slow down or stop and let you pass.

Anywhere else and its a lottery, soon find out if youv'e got the nerve or anything in those silky running legs left.

Hmmmm.... not too sure why you state this, so far I have only paid 100baht for all but 1 journey and that was 200baht for an almost complete circuit of "the one way system", e.g. from Christens all the way round to soi Jintana.

I think whoever told you this must have been Thai and driving a tuk-tuk 55555 !!

Crossing the streets in Patong is like playing that old video game where an animal(chicken?) has to cross a road with a lot of cars speeding. Forgot the name of the game.

Thats what everyone knows and wants. Problem is, we would have to go through a civil war to get it that way

I still play it now on Kamalalala Hill with my bike. Frogger at night with your lights off is better IMHO. Give yourself a point for every 'Pop' sound you hear.........Hours of fun for all the family. Thanks MT.

That is exactly how it feels. In this case if you loose you can't hit the reset button on the old Atari!

Joking apart, the traffic down there can be lethal and often is! I know people have had a skinfull of beer (Morning, noon and night!) BUT try and keep your wits and a bit of road sense about you when crossing the road.

A few people have mentioned the crossing (Zebra) points are a waste of time and yes, really they are, giving a false sense of security to people on holiday and used to traffic actually stopping at them to let them cross the road.

If you can't get across, which is unlikely, find a bar on the side you are on and watch everyone else trying to get across! Sorted!

Hmm

To achieve this would require 15 years of sanctions to deprive the tuk tuks of petrol and spare parts, 5 years of civil war - and still there would be ambushes and roadside bombs aimed at the bus.

Oh the one way system was still in place in April, the problem was that some of it was driving on the left, some driving on the right, and pedestrian crossings were fun in Bangkok....

well...... we can always dream!

Asking the tuktuk drivers to reduce their income to 10% of what it is now is gonna to be a little bit tough!

Off course they wont understand that by doing that that , they'll most probably have an increase of more business than the drop in percentage. TIT
