Patong or Pattaya. Which is the better holiday destination?

I'm just interested to hear members views on which is the better holiday destination to visit.

Both Patong and Pattaya seem to offer the same attractions (Hotels, beaches, golf, bars, girls, sight seeing, restaurants, gyms, shopping, supermarket etc).

Which is better and why?

But Pattaya is all about the girls....more of them....more gogos.....better gogo scene.....a lot cheaper for hotels......can save on girls, too, if you are on a budget......Pattaya is a city, not a beach town......beaches not so great

Patong is about the beaches and the beer bars....Patong=small town feel.....more young guys=more competition.....and the girls can be much pickier, esp. in high season....Patong is more beautiful.....food, accommodations, and massages are pricier.....Patong is more upscale

G'day rocksta,
i do a fair bit of reading this forum and it may be worth doing a search ,i did find patts a bit to full on and i do like patong because it's a bit layed back, if it's your first trip I recomend Phuket,then when you return asap check out patt's next time.then when or if you get sick of that ,head into the north country. JL

As far as the Pattaya-Patong comparison, ask me again in about one month and a halve, when my first Pattaya tour will be ended.Counting the days....

I agree with Jay Bee. If you want full on mongering....Pattaya is pretty hard to beat. Everything is cheaper and the selection is bigger.

Why not have a look at both locations and make a choice? It's not expensive to get to or from either place.

There are lads who have been coming to Phuket every year, year in, year out who have eventually decided to take a trip up there and decided that Patts is now more of what they want out of thier holiday........2/3 weeks of 'in your face' P4P and lots of it. Great!

On the other hand I had two mates come down here to Patong for three days with thier tilaks the other month and stayed at the Summer Breeze. They have lived in Patts for three years (Commuting between work in Iraq and home in Thailand) and are now seriously considering moving down here as they say they are 'fed up' with the 'in your face' pace of Patts.

A comparison of a Family Mart (Patong) and a huge Walmart (Pattaya) stock pretty much what I want and I can usually find it at the corner shop.

As the saying goes "You pays yer money, you makes yer choice" - I've been to both places and spent a long period of time in Bangkok. I decided, after giving these places a fair crack of the whip that Phuket and in particular the pace of life and friendliness of Kamala has just what I need and want to enjoy a lifestyle that Denver desires!

Waiting in line in the 7/11 in Soi 8 and as I get to the counter a bargirl hurries into the store, pushes in front of me and quickly purchases a single condom, then by way of apology to me she explains the urgency "I go short time".
I just smile and "mai bpen lai".
Everybody in the store saw this happen, nobody in the store thought it was anything out of the ordinary.......

Phuket even in Patong is more relaxing than Pattaya - especially if you like the beach. I also prefer the restaurants in Patong. Pattaya is very popular with Russians, Phuket less so. Hotels tend to be much cheaper in Pattaya. If you can, then try both.

One odd thing about Pattaya.......none of the girls there like Pattaya. But there are loads of them. So if you hook up with a girl you like there, you can most always take her to Phuket, Samui, Hua Hin, or wherever you like to go! (Smilies show penguin BG leaving Pattaya w/ penguin farang.)
