Don't think that system would work in LOS. One time I was sat at a ladybar, drinking Rosso with the owner on the stool next to me, and my girl on my other side. She gets up to go to the Hong Nam, and asks me to watch her smokes while she is gone. I forget about it and when she gets back the pack is gone. She had a real snit fit about it!! Obviously one of her "friends" snitched it, as there were no other farangs around then.

I like the bin, and prefer to pay up at the end of the evening.
If it looks like too many chits in your bin, pay for those and start again.
Like Hobbsy said, who wants to be changing notes every round and ending up with a pocket full of 20baht coins..........not me.

I don't see it as any different to what i do in the west where I put my credit card behind the bar then run a tab.....at the end I pay it all at once in the end....
haven't had too many issues in LOS....juts the odd extra drink here + there probably balanced by one going on someone else's tab...I've never disputed one.....but the alternatives like in the nightclubs where you order....then pay for every drink when you get it...then wait for change takes forever

If you're worried about getting ripped off you could just look at each chit as it is given and mark it with and indiscrimant symbol. But it would have to be some sort of coded sequence that could not be forged. For example, mark each chit with a letter of your name. If your name is Cheap Charlie just mark each chit C-H-E-A... and so on. When it's time to pay spell out your name.

I am confident that it will not work in LOS, that is why I prefaced my comment as being a little OT. It would work many places outside the US. I have actually tried leave tips on the bar in Denmark and seen other customers try to steal them ... a mere 1 dollar or so.

Nels, that may be the case in upmarket hotels & exclusive nightclubs you visit, but that sure aint the case in good ol suburbia, here in Oz.
I wouldn't like our friends from abroad, thinking we have a bin/credit type situation here in our bars/clubs/pubs.....It's pay as you go.

I like the system, you can always pay as you go if you want.
Only problem I have is if I suddenly go on a bit of a bender and have to check the bin before I order too much and dont have enough cash, On the odd occasion the bar tender has trusted me and watched the bin when I have popped to the nearest cash point.

My last trip went to one of the GOGO bars at Nana plaza,
had the signed chit bins cant remember which one, I think its the best way. And when we went to patpong to one of the rip off show places they wouldnt give me a chit, so i wouldnt order any more drinks till they did when they gave me the chit, we looked at it and left
3 drinks + 2 lady drinks 1400 Baht SH*T!
my TGF payed because it was her idea to go and I warned her before went in

I do that all the time also.
Give them the card and let the tab run.
It is amazing how good they are at managing that.
The other day I was at a bar in an airport where there was serious delays.
They must have had 30 or 40 credit cards behind the counter, plus tabs were opening and closing all the time.

Keep the bins
I like using the bin system. As others have said every now and then you can pay them off if you are drinking too many.
The bins are needed by the bar as a retrospective way of keeping track of sales. The staff know there is a paper work trail and so are less likely to cheat.

Paul, I liked that c/c system in the USA.
It kinda made a personal touch too, cos the bartenders (where I visited) would look at my card, then enter my name into their touchscreen cash register.
They then knew my name & would address me by that.
A little bit different than the...yeahmatewhaddyawant?....I'm so used to hearing. 55555555555555

I like the bin system and find that as i butterfly the bars as well as the girls, that it's pretty easy to spot any add ons! However when i'm gaga near the end of the night, it's a different story
