Get rid of the 'Bin'

I think the' bin 'system causes more problems than the 'pay as you go 'system, and feel its days are numbered in places like Phuket...What do you think?
( Most annoying when Les bought a round and they put the chit in my bin! 55)

Well, I agree, it has its' problems. But it is more convenient than having to fish through your pockets for notes every time you get another beer. For the bars, it works better, because then the BG can get you your beer and not have to handle any money. If the bar is crowded, then that makes for better service. The only problem is when they start sneaking extra chits in there, pouring themselves drinks on your tab without your OK, or getting your bin mixed up with the other guys. But I think it makes for a more relaxed atmosphere. In US bars, often the bartenders are so busy, it is a hassle just getting a beer from them.

Hope not. Every bar would end up like Taipan then. Every time you get a drink the waitress expects a tip.

Gotta say, I like the bin system because I dont have to dive in my pocket every round.

Like most, I have been 'ripped off' fo the odd drink that I didn't authorise the server to have but, no big deal really.

Saying that, my gf scrutinises every chit as it arrives so I cannot see that happening again, unless she lets me out on my own. Whih is unlikely!!

so in the OP you are against the bin then next post you are for it?!

mind... up... make...

personally i like it - otherwise you would end up with a pocket full of 20 baht notes and pockets weighed down to floor with coins! all that change everytime - no thanks.

One simple system, that I reckon would work & save any hassles & disputes with the bin is this...........

Each server has a receipt pad & as you order she jots down the order........When he/she brings you the drinks, you look at receipt & sign/initial it.....You get the original copy & the cashier gets the carbon copy.

Can't be that hard can it?

If I had a bar, that's how I'd be doing it.

They can fix that if they do like in Manilla (Burgos Street Makati). Every time they put a note in the bin you have to sign it. So if at the end of the evening unsigned drinks in your bin it means you did not order/allow it, you don't pay it.

Just Spend Couple Of Weeks In Krabi, some Have Bin Some Dont.
To Be Honest I Like The Bin And Havnt Been Ripped Off Much.and Easier To Just Pay On Leaving And Can Keep A Count On How Many U Have Had.
But Think One Night Dawsey May Have Had My Shout Put In His Bin By Mistake, but Feel It Normally Evens Itself Out.
Maybe You Should Check Chits As They Go In To Save Any Problems.

That's the answer. Would solve all the problems with the bin system as we know it!

The bin is great as long as you dont spend the whole night in one place, then the bin is full and you have no control of what is in it. More then once I am certain I have been cheated out of drinks this way. So for the hell of it I will in future not have the same bin the whole evening if I spend the whole evening in one place.

You MAOW Hobbsy???? I didnt say I like it or not...
Knowing the growing Aus crowd and watching their newbie reactions to the bin and knowing how argumentative they can become after a "few" I possibly can forsee a lot of bars going the way of the prefferred option of the Aussie Bar patrons and "pay as you go"...
Didnt think of the extra 'tip' deal but...

This is being done at most pubs here, smaller ones of course, that's how the waitress earns and keeps track of her commissions.

Another system is where you get coupons. Buy a jug and get 4 coupons, that way you know how much you drink and pay up front.

A quick glance will usually tell if there are added extra's... I have pointed it out to the girl I was with and she sorted it with the bar.
Like most I like the system as it adds to the relaxed atmosphere.

Was out last weekend and I seem to remember a bar here having a signed binned system. Worked well here although I did notice a couple of Chavs, being told to pay each round.

If only I can remember where it was................ Somewhere in London!?
