On my first visit in 1999 this was quite a busy soi. The Irish bar was well patronised especially, and all the bars had quite a few hot girls. My mate and myself rarely went up Bangla as we found all we needed there.

This last April, me and BM Calyid took a stroll down there as I wanted to relive my memories. I was very suprised to find it pretty deserted. The bars were still there of course, but only a couple of girls in each bar and virtually no lookers. Has this soi died a death, or did we catch it on a bad day. It was probably 10-10.30pm we went. Maybe it livens up later, anyone know ??

It would be a shame if little sois like this withered and died and the Bangla area became the only nightlife area imo, or am I just being a bit sentimentalist.

think he means the small huddle of bars on beachroad just past the entrance to bangla,the first one is called the irish bar i think.

The Bars Down By The Thara Patong..............the Sailor Bar Used To Be There Plus An Irish Bar..cant Remember The Name Of It Though...........

This area was really busy in the 90`s,but it died a slowly death,beginning 10 years ago IMO.I found it to be a good place then on the nights I didn`t want the hustle and bustle of Bangla,plenty of sweet girls and not to pushy either.

But both the quality and the quantity of girls in that area has been in rapid decline for a long time now !!

Soi Irish is off beach road, and the Irish bar is on the corner. From Bangla, turn right onto beach road and is around 75 yards down. Its the short cut from Poppa Palace to the beach as well.

Yahooka, I'm with you on this, deffo gone downhill both in quality and quantity. Its a shame really that these little lesser known sois are slowly dying. It seems the whole history and roots of Patong (not that I know much about this) is being swallowed up by that monster that is Bangla. But hey, its a friendly monster nevertheless, and one I cant wait to get back to.

It was called soi dontan beer bars; right now it looks like hasnt any future as a beer bars soi.

I drink at speedies bar quite alot but when i leave i am in no fit state to spell the name of the Soi correctly..........55555555555......but yes their custom does seem to be down over the last couple of years, i know speedies gets by on mainly expats and friends who go there for a few drinks.

it still gets going on some nights. I start most of my nights at a Thai owned place a few bars in called Jazz Bar. They usually have about 8-12 girls working of average looks but very friendly and they don't hassle you for drinks. Nice area for happy hour.
Irish Bar gets the most business but I don't like the place. The owner seems to be the most unpleasant guy you could ever meet. He sits in the corner and literally spends the night counting his money as it pours through the cash register to his lap. I stayed at Thara Patong my first couple of years going to Phuket and drank there a lot and every night that guy would not smile and never moved. Just sat there counting his money right in front of everyone. I eventually moved down to the Jazz bar and have been going there for years now.

There is another little soi runs parallel to it,where the toilets are,is even quieter,but have found some nice girls there this year.

Well worth a look for those who like to have a quiet drink every now and then.

Agree withyou 100%.Not averyone likes the hustle and bustle of Bangla all the time.

Quiet little Soi`s like that don`t atrract the hawker`s and visiting football teams and yobo`s,that the Bangla bars,girls and hawkers prey on.

I'm with you guys on this. I've had a drink or two in those little bars in Soi Dongtan and also the ones on Sawatdirak Rd. Nothing wrong with Bangla Rd but it's nice to have other options.

I too hope that the other Soi's stick around for the long term

It's a nice quiet little soi and lots of friendly people there, but, quite frankly, can't say much for the looks of the girls I've seen there.

there's one paticular irish bar on the beach road that has the best air con in any bar i visited in phuket! was great to cool down in there of an afternoon!

True,it`s hard to find a good one there,but every now and then i have been pleasantly surprised by finding a really nice one.
