Watermark's 5th Birthday Party shocker
Did any other BM's find themselves at the Watermark Restaurant's 5th birthday party do last night?......Just in case you missed this well publicised event here is a review........so you get the idea of what it was like.....we went with a group of friends.....for oh ......about 1 hour.....would have been less if our driver had got back faster....
Seemed a debacle.... a bad move for a company with a reputation for functions/events to uphold. I hope it was so bad because something unexpected happened not because it was how they had planned it.
It was held at the Baan Chin Pracha in old phuket town...(big historical house on large block) not the actual restaurant. We got there and walked in on on some boards which sank a good inch or so into the water that flooded the garden....were told to wait on these rafts with wet feet while we were told to 'stay away' from the lovely lit - up table under marquee in the middle of the garden (housing the watermark VIP's)...we handed in our tickets and were directed towards the bigger puddle which was where it seemed all other guests were meant to stand in the dark in the water and watch those 50 people underlights eat a lavish meal.....from an acceptable distance of 10m.
We were able to enter the historic house which was interesting but 5 mins later we had seen it and now all there was to do was get a drink, stand in a shallow lake and watch the 50 eat. In a burst of excitement a fire twirler did a 7 min routine in front of the eaters........it then went dark and quite again.........we watched in amusement as a large pipe pumped water from one part of the garden into the larger puddle through which arriving guests had to walk.
If any more 'entertainment' was coming is was a long way off as not nearly enough equipment sat in a small pile with no real set up taking place.....then the straw that sent more than us out the door........at nearly 10pm dessert was served to the '50 being watched' by waiters having to weave their way through us standing on a small patch of higher ground........and a sax player started up as background music for the eaters....and thus all present.....he started up with a rendition (played at half speed) of the old party favourite.....Amazing Grace!!
So amongst laughter and comparison to the party of 'the year' promise and funky DJ garden gig extravaganza to what actually was happening......our driver arrived back and we were off....we even picked up another 2 people eager to get out so our mini bus was full........and got outta there.......came to our senses and with the aim of rekindling our party vibe, headed to Patong......for a great late dinner and off to a couple of bars.
Most conversations we heard from people standing around in the lake was like ' i am sure it was meant to start already....have we got the time wrong' ' have you got Mikes number on you....i better call him and tell him not to bother...no, tell him to come pick us up' 'just want to give a birthday congrats to x (in the watched VIP tent) but they are only just serving them dessert.....I'm not waiting around for this' and so on.
At about 10 as we were leaving....the leavers seemed to be outnumbering the arrivers already. So things may have dramatically changed at some time after that but it was looking very bleak. Hope for the guests and the Watermark Events department things improved. Did anyone else go.....or have a good experience there?
