I suggested Patong but...
GF is wanting a short holiday somewhere when I get back early December.
Looking for suggestions as to where is a good place for a few days/ a week.
Chilling during the day and then some nightlife (exc BG's, naturally, unless I can talk her into..naa, thats not gonna happen).
Not too far as Im p1ssed off with flying and I aint too keen on shopping trips either!!
Any of you guys know of good destinations??

Try Koh Lanta or Railey beach, lots of nice islands in phang nga bay/krabi where you can get the paradise feeling.

You can get the "Paradise feeling" in Patong too,if you are really desperate for something different.

Sure did Easy and we both enjoy it, however if you would like a quieter destination then try Jomtien, only about 15 mins by baht taxi (10baht each) to Pattaya if you want a bit more night life............did I say "BIT" - ha, try alot more night life.
We actually like Jomtien the best as the beach is far better and there are cheaper, really good, restaurants and great street food, also, as I said, for couples its less hectic.
We have stayed at a few places but the Jomtien Boathouse, right across from the beach and only about 1200baht p/n. was a very nice place, big, clean rooms and a great position.

But D said he didn't want to fly anywhere, so Jomtien is surely out. Got to be Phang nga or krabbi or both for a little drive and bit of nice scenery.
But why does she need a holiday Dennis? and why not simply ask her? what does she like doing best? could go to Krabbi by boat or maybe even a couple of days to phi phi island if its just watersports or relaxing she wants.

Surin Beach is good this time of the year.
DIS should be able to find some cheap accommodation in the area too.

Try Hua Hin, Koh Chang or Jomtiem. Any of these should be good.

I second Nanooks suggestion, of Hua Hin.
Beautiful place, low profile P4P, nice beach, great food, couples friendly, and fairly easy to reach from Phuket. That is, if you don't mind and all day trip.
Maybe a nice train ride from Surat Thani....

Took my last TG on trips from Bkk to Chiang Mai & Phuket 2 places sha had not been before, she enjoyed them immensly.
Also took her home to Nong Khai and then she wanted to over to Laos as she had never been anywhere out of Thailand, She only lived accross the river and I guess it was somewhere she had always dreamt of visiting, Maybe worth thinking about something like that.

Hua Hin has kind of turned into a special place for my gf and I
not for any other reason, just that we both seem to agree it fits us perfectly
i just feel ultimately relaxed there without feeling isolated like when on an island
also, the girls seem to get a real kick out of it being where the King spends most of his time in his huge compound

Koh Lanta or Railey beach
|
lanta is nice, but railley???? you even can`t walk there, it's so overcrowded + the highest prices of thailand.

I havent been to Railey beach for many years, it is that bad now?
The same can be said for Phi Phi, very nice in low season, but to be avoided in high season.

Drive down to Koh Lippe.. Superb and will be back open again..
Only drawback is that theres not much luxury accomodations.. Very much basic beach huts, cold water only, electric only at night kinda thing.. But a great place I will be checking out again.
Theres a thread and some pics I posted last spring.
