Poompui. Cute word, but how do you spell it?

It seems that many Thai women think that they're poompui and some fuss over their diet.

The reality is that most Thais have a slim build, and, living on a diet of lean meat, fish, tropical fruits and low carb vegetables, have a fat chance of becoming poompui.

On the other hand, you see poompui farang embarking from aircraft on a daily basis.

I wonder what the Thais think of us? Perhaps they view us as wealthy westerners who over indulge.

Little do they know that our western society has brain washed us into eating high fat, high sodium, high sugar crap called fast food.

I'm glad my Thai girlfriend isn't poompui (great curves).

How is "poompui spelt" anyway?

You may be right on your spelling as a Google search from Pompui being a Food Product Company traded on the stock exchange of Thailand.

Does that mean this company is known for marketing fattening food?

Its irrelevant how a translation dictionary spells the word as it is a sound of a thai word and cannot be correctly or incorrectly spelt in English.

Nacha technically you are correct as it uses the letter bor bplaa, but how would a English, a Swedish, a German pronounce the spelling as you show?
each differently, therefore for at least one of them, it is spelt incorrectly as all you are trying to do is give an example of the sound in Thai.

Does all that make sense?? hope so, cos already bored of explaining it and although not as good an answer, nor as long as JB would/will do, it was my try.

Sodium.. Check..
MSG.. Check..
Fats.. Check (fried everything and coconut milk curries)
Lean meats (fatty pork).. nope..

Dunno about how healthy Thai food really is myself.. Plus the fact they have found cancergens and mad chemical poisons in the red dye used on pork, theres absolutely no control over toxins, additives to livestock feeds etc Theres a reason why Thai products are often banned overseas (chickens, prawns to US etc) in they dont meet safety standards.

just bad that there's no soundfile to listen available for poom pui (or however you write it 5555).

msg in everything, fish and shell fish from the polluted environs of the gulf of siam, all the unchecked agricultural chemicals leaching into the klongs up in the far north east.

white rice the choice of the masses, only prisoners and the enviro friendly hi-so/middle class eat the unprocessed brown rice.

issan roadkill suprise, food transferred from pot to pot over a few days, meat obtained from the house/abattoir owned by a cousin.

off topic for sure, but thai food being healthy i am never sure of that.

the sign on the highway near udon, "udon thani organic city"

Funny... On which side of the city is that?

Because usually when I arrive the route goes from the airport to Big C and then the highway (22?) in the direction of Nonghan followed to the exit towards her village.

always thought to get a photo of it, but thats a really boring trip report photo, unless of course with a nude bg standing next to it.
