Happy Birthday to the King
Happy Birthday to his Majesty- 80 Today.
I think it is great the way that the Thai's respect their Monarch and reflects the respect they have in society for their elders and family in general.
The National Anthem being played each night on TV and the way that it is respected etc.
Within the UK the youth have no respect for themselves, family, elders, police, royalty and society in general etc..........we are going down the pan very quickly.
Long Live the King
Best Wishes
Drew

Happy Birthday to his Majesty.
This date always reminds me of my very first trip to Thailand, which was my date of return back to england and I had no idea it was the King's birthday.
Flying over Bangkok from Phuket I could see an incredible amount of rockets going off in the sky, missed out on the celebrations and was gutted.

Maybe the Thais should read the December issue of National Geographic then. With that issue there is a 34 page supplement describing 80 Royal Development Projects that he has initiated. Very impressive and if that is common knowledge among Thais then no wonder he sometimes is looked upon as a "God".
It is worth a read for everyone who wants to learn more about the King and Thailand.

i deleted all my posts in my debate with soupdragon because this is not the place or thread to have that dispute
I do admire many of the projects and works the King has undertaken and have read quite a bit about just for the reason he is my gf's King and she is devoted to him so i want to understand that devotion
if anyone wants to debate anything other than wishing the King a happy Birthday, feel free to PM me

Marc I take no offence at what you say. I am here in Thailand right now having beer and BBQ with many Thais around me. (I am also sorting out a music system for a friend hence I am looking at the computer) I dropped the question "why do you adore the King". the uniform answer was "because he always cares". I think that says it all without going into detail.

So i mentioned to my gf how much worldwide coverage the King's b-day had gotten
her response was adorable
i told her, she responded, "my king?" i said yes and she just let out the happiest giggle

then maybe in future you will stop and think think before you make silly posts which upset people.
Someone once told me Marc that if you can not be Polite then at least have the decency to be 'vague' and don't say what is on your mind.
I think it was Noel Coward who originaly said it during his 1920's witty period.
I really like the way the Thai's have respect for things;
their family, superstitions, their land, their culture, their King and more importantly what they have been taught by their elders who they really do respect, there is a true bond and genuine heart felt love for their mum and dad gran and grandad and anyone of that age even if they don’t know them;
which is something that if you live in the west has been completely lost.
I personally love that about the Thais and their real care about people.
It is very cleansing for the soul; and I always feel very humbled because of their attitude to the King, their Family, us lucky visitors etc and their general lot in life;
they have really very little in comparison to us in the west yet they are always easy with a smile and quick to make little of the fact and seem so more happy than we are.
That is what really makes them special and the one that they all adore (their King) even more special as a great human being.
What is wrong with that?
Regards
Drew

is it wrong to have thoughts or just blindly follow people?
how was i rude by saying that i think its more of a blind devotion than an educated one by the conversations i have had with thais
is it ok to bash any president or monarchy that is not in Thailand, but if someone questions soemthing it is silly?
why cant i admire my gf's devotion but still question it?
isnt it a free world and questioning and asking questions allows us to understand things better, no?
sorry for having a brain and electing to use it

This is a MOST interesting topic for discussion, but IMO I honestly believe it should be done in a different thread than this.
