Thai ATM Card Work in AUS ATM?

My wife and I have a young thai girl coming to stay with us next week until the 29th December when she will head off to Sydney and Gold Coast before returning home. She has a Bank of Ayutayha (spelling?)atm card. Does any one know if she can withdraw funds via an atm in Australia?

Aussie, I can't help you with the card.

I can help the young lady with accommodation in Sydney though

You have the option when opening the account of getting a domestic or international ATM card. The international cards normally show the cirrus or maestro symbols.

Chip and Pin

I do not know what the Bank standard is in Aus but in the UK we now use a chip and pin card. Thai banks do not use these cards which is part of the issue with card copying. The standard Thai bank card will not work in the UK unless it is chip and pin enabled.

Given that my credit card was copied by the Ban Sukhothai Hotel in Thailand and used in Australia I guess Australia does not have chip and pin either.

I think Plus or Maestro and Cirrus on the back of the card is the thing to look for.
Should work in most ATM`s worldwide.

I think Maestro is now fully replaced by a Mastercard(debit card), the maestro name should be vanishing....

The chip can be a problem, because its gonna be implemented all over europe, for safety, its to easy to copy cards, but on the other ive allready heard rumours that the chip has been hacked, not sure if its a true story.

Chip ATM's

I don't know the plans for this system but at the moment there is no problem using unchipped cards in ATM's in the UK, or any other European country i have been to.
