Any healthy vegetarian restaurants around?

Hi, was wondering if anyone knows of any places where they do healthy vegetarian/organic etc food around Patong, preferably...Im on a bit of a health binge and wld love to discover such places within reasonable distance of bangla. (Indian restaurants dont count as they are mostly oily and spicy)

For those who like some healthy juices, Id like to recommend Pun Pun Juice next to Starbucks on Patong Beach, great juice combinations that you wont find elsewhere and you know you're getting the good stuff. Cheers

You could go to Faulty towers and ask for one of Crustys burgers with out the meat.
Depends how hungry you are.

My mother is a vegetarian..

We actually struggled much more than I thought to help her in finding nice eating out places.. I thought the Thai resturants and cooks we used would have adapated things easily. But in fact that wasnt easy.

Theres big yellow signs up stating "healthy vegetarian food has arrived at jungceylon" but in true no one thought about it fashion, they dont say where !! I assume it means something in the food court ??

If it is true vegetarian food you are after i.e. no animals products involved in the preparation and utensils not contaminated by being used to cook meat then this could be mission impossible. I don't think Thai people really grasp the concept of vegetarianism (is that a word). They seem to think if it isn't toxic then you can eat it. Bag of assorted bugs anyone??.

I think u'll find that they do. Vegetarianism (technically vegan) is a big part of Daoist belief that is practiced by the ethnic Chinese. The Thai term for it is เจ pronounced "jay". Jay food and jay food restaurants can be identified by the little yellow flags that have เจ written on them, as does the kiosk in the Jungceylon food court.

I stand corrected. Thank you enlightening me. I am an out and out carnivore so haven't really researched this subject.

So is soya bean not vegetarian then??

Cannot see how you can have a healthy vegetarian restaurant they don't sell meat, no meal is healthy without a nice dollop of protein and animal fat, just popping out now for an all you can eat bbq, now there's another thing veggies cannot go to, being a veggy, much too restrictive and unhealthy and makes your farts smell worse, so not going to any healthy or unhealthy ones anytime in the forseeable future.

I was up in bangkok during the veg festival time and the Jay food in the food courts was great...forget most of the names of the dishes but almost every stall had a dedicated section for Jay food. Plenty of veg Khanom Jeen which my fav

Also Chinatown was full of it, great food and a great atmosphere, just walking around stopping at 4 or 5 places to eat something different at each one. Not tried in JC so can't comment on that, but in general I do like Jay food.

A blog I always read is RealThai, fantastic photography of food from all over bangkok and further afield. A great way to search out the little speciality places which you would never otherwise find

There are a few veggie only places in phuket town, one one rite by bangkok hospital called lotus or the lotus. there's another one down the road rite across the street from the other hospital. There is also a vegetarian food store in phuket town, I don't remember where it is but I see it often. Your best bet for veggie food is the italian spots. Some street food will rock the ahan jay for you, but its few and far between. Pizza company and sizzler got some good salad bars. Pizza company is 80 baht for a decent salad bar. Honestly your best bet is to buy a thai veggie cook book and have some thai walk you thru cooking. Best of luck
