I travel to Thailand on Sunday. I had a missed call about 3 hours ago on my mobile phone from a number in Thailand. I'm worried it might be an airline or hotel trying to get hold of me but I cannot understand them when I ring back. Could someone please ring the number for me if I send it to you via PM?

I know its a weird question but I dont want any of my bookings to be cancelled or changed! Or if not, at least tell me what area its from? The start of the number is +66 2629

Without the +66 the number locally would start 02 which i'm sure is bangkok... PM the number and i'll give it a shot

So. Turns out this is a jewelers right near the hotel I am booked to stay in at Khao San Road! Thats a bit dodgy isnt it? The hotel giving my number to the jewelers?

Haha. Just think its a bit naughty of the hotel to give my number out. Not sure what the jewelers think they might achieve by ringing me also

Probably someone at the hotel "sold" your number to the jeweler, and in return get commission if you buy something from them.

Telcos and Banks in Msia do that, it's not a secret anymore. Internal staff sell phone numbers to telemarketers!!!

Is that not a bit of an extreme reaction to a small annoyance?
I too would be annoyed if it happened but the odd call you get will be a lot less than if companies at home sold your info legally.
A Thai making money out of us again or a poorly paid worker trying to supplement their meagre income?
