silly wifi question

I havnt had a cell phone for some time but got an iphone for the trip in case of emergencies. i wont use the phone and will have roaming turned off ect....but will i be charged when trying to tap into wifi? I am in Massachusetts. Thanks and any other cell phone related tips are welcome.

Hi Mad.

I have one I bought in the US lately and use it mostly by wifi. If the network is open, it is free for you. Many places have it that way as a service.
Why not use the phone part too? May be locked to AT&T?

If you can search for a Network on the phone and able to surf, then it's free.

If you are asked for a WEP key, then you will need a password which means you have to pay.
