Laptop question

I just got a new laptop and am a virgin with wifi, however am travelling to patong in jan and my hotel has wifi in the rooms, just wondering if using my own laptop how safe it is to do internet banking, share trading etc etc via the wifi, i would never do this from a public internet cafe but is it all safe using my own laptop via wifi?

Nothing is ever 100%, however, if your bank uses a secure connection "https://" you should not worry.
