I bumped into Cliffy a few years after he won. A really salt of the earth guy. He was happy for a chat and was very humble with his achievements. Very typicle of all the people I have met and know from south eastern victoria.

Yeah, saw him in Colac the following year, just after he married Mary Howell who was 23 at the time....(and WE get funny looks if our TG is half our age! )...eccentric old coot...when Bradbury won our first gold at the Winter Olympics they called it a “Cliff Young moment”....there is something to be said for just turning up and giving it a go....Vale Cliffy.

he certainly was an amazing old guy - 'specially marrying a girl over half his age..........and he still lived to 81 y/o, although I believed he was divorced - maybe he wanted too mutt boom, boom and she couldn't keep up with him.........555555555
