Your right it sounds like a nice trip with pictures and everything. Now I gotta ask . . . . . are you F**king crazy or what. That there me Muzzy country and their just itching to try out their new video camera while executing you.
I visited a long stretch of the east coast in the early 90's and saw some of the most beautiful beaches ever. Come to find out the movie South Pacific was shot down there. However I also ran into some very strange folks even then. . . .now I wouldn't go on a bet.

Almost daily events in certain regions on the border many targeting schools and teachers. Happens so often now it is small time news (OK not for those getting shot at). Doesn't mean you couldn't drive across the border and into Malaysia though, would say the paperwork getting past immigration would be more of a headache than the risk of an attack.

Obviously you don't get it, this is not a Thai - Farang problem, go back and do your research again you will see Farangs are not the targets.

OK but. . . . . . . Are there any other Farangs in the area to use in this test? I have been in Hat Yai a few times but I didn't wonder down the highway on a bike.
Your in country so you know better about what going on, and I am probably wrong (again) but it just seems a little bit of a risk right now?

Maybe you are not aware but Hat Yai has a large expat English teacher population. I have many friends working there. One in particular rides a Yamaha R1 and does regular trips to Phuket and also into Malaysia to enjoy the excellent roads there, no-one has taken a pop at him. Don't ask me how he goes on with getting the bike through immigration, never asked him.

Then the next thing to worry about is the ones who is coming in your line from the other way, since they have no respect for a little motorbike! Driving around in Phuket is nothing compare to the roads going down south to the border! If you want a nice motorbike holiday, my expericnce is north of BKK is pretty good driving!
Take care!

I knew I was missing something, I had no idea about all the Falongs down there? I really liked the area and was hoping to go back, thanks!

First time I heard this being done was 17 years back... it was an American Singapore Airlines pilot.
Last year a guy I know (and play golf with) did the same. Drove his bike from Singapore to his house near Loch Palm... he is a Singapore Airlines Pilot (before Sabena).
So it is be done. Don't know if those guys who participate in Phuket's Big Bike week do it. I suppose they fly and transport their bikes by truck to Patong.
Heard the roads are quite good all the way to Singapore (highways?). And those trucks and busses driving the wrong line on the road, that is common in Thailand. I have a friend doing the trip BKK - Phuket often by car, and he often has that problem.

To: Ignorant clown knocking just for the sake of knocking.
The Malaysian North-South Highway from the Thai border right down to Singapore is ranked the 12th best managed highway in the world.
In South East Asia, it is no. 1.
I know this because I work on the account here in Malaysia.
Currently, they are doing upgrade works on certain stretches of the highway. Even so, the safety signs are so adequately placed that you know about the danger stretches long before.
It is generally safe as long as you practise precautious safety yourself.
ie. don't go under the bus' slip stream to cut down drag. don't wheelie right in the middle of the road.
As for the bombing, hijad, etc... while it does happen more often nowadays, it's mostly at the border area and no where near the OP's mentioned trip of Penang-KL-Singapore.
Quite tired of all the negative info which lacks any substance.
If you guys want to comment, just make sure you know your facts.

Having lived in a civil war zone I know how close total tranquility and mass bombing can be.
Hence this comment is enlightening =
