karon beach to patong
hello all
we are going to phuket april/may for 8 days and we are undecided where to stay.
we want to go somewhere quite that is why we are looking at karon but on the same hand we want to enjoy some of the nightlife in patong.
so we were wondering how much it would cost to commute by taxi between karon and patong and are they available late at night?

Approximately 300 baht each way for a tuk-tuk. Available very late night.

I always stay In Karon when I go to Phuket and go everynight to Patong by motosai but then there is the problem of drunk driving !!!
The tuck tuck option is not too bad but can become expensive if you stay for a long period of thime and go every night to patong !
Have fun !

Depends on just how quiet you want it I guess. For their first trips here, my parents preferred Kata (they never liked Karon). But lately they’ve opted for Kamala as even Kata got too busy for them. (But interestingly, my dad did not mind the occasional trip down to Patong.) About 250 – 300 BHT from here to Patong.
And NO, you will NOT have a problem acquiring a tuk tuk in Patong. Any time of the day. Avoiding them on the other hand…

300 baht is that per person?am i right in saying it would be 11au$ in and 11au$ back? i see what you mean it could end up costing a lot.
so has anyone got a good resort to recommend for a young 40 ish couple in patong for around 70au$ in late april for 8 nights

300BHT for the cab itself, 1 or 4 ppl
there are so many diff resorts/hotels/guesthouses you could stay at in patong you really need to figure out what facilities you want, and then around what area you want and then narrow it down from there
take your time

Sometime they try to charge more if you’re in a group, but just insist on the price. Oh, and always negotiate beforehand.
I would recommend Salathai in Patong. My mom stayed there last year and was very satisfied. You should be able to get a room there for around that price. (Just note that prices decrease sharply from May 1.)
Salathai - Patong - Phuket - Phuket, Thailand
Try AsiaRooms for a good price:

I have stayed at the Hilton a few times and most of the times when I went for a tuk-tuk on Beach road they waived over a small car. Wasn't a licenced cab, but got be comfortably to Patong for 300 baht. On a few occasions I would make arrangements ta call the same driver when I was going back.

i tend to agree with the above advice. i made my first trip and stayed in karon and i am going back soon.
yes the tuk tuk was 300bt and it was the same back from patong in the early hours, though you have to be prepared to be driven at schumacher speed up and down the hills. a real joyride, especuially with a young lady in tow!
i loved karon, great for your first time, quite intimate, very friendly and in nov i was lucky enough to enjo the world beach volleyball championshiop- what more could i ask for.

Am staying at the Karon Cafe for 12 nights in March. At 1200 or so baht a night it should be fine. Has anyone stayed there before?
God I need my holiday. Bring it on.

Scotty
i have eaten there it has a good reputation. i had a prov booking there for april, price dropped to 600bt from end april, in the end i opted for the mermaid as that was only 700 from early april.
i was abit wary of karonkafe because there were only about 6 rooms and didnt want to risk getting there and all booked.
i stayed at the rattana beach hotel just behind, fantastic place but more expensive. love the place- karon i mean

Cheers hishnick.
I booked a Delux room and have paid a deposit through the secure system so my booking should be fine. i stayed in Patong last time, so am looking forward to the more low key Karon. Will head to Patong for some nightime action though. What are the bars and BGs like in Karon? in your opinion?

i was quite happy with karon, especailly as afirst timer, enough totty to go round. you can always find one or two stunners but few and far between. a lot of dogs aswell but you can spot them a mile off.
it was difficult but i regualrly sat at the bar with a girl who i didnt like and asked her to swap places with another one i spotted. a bit of sulking but they get over it.
i realise now i missed the other area of karon, never saw it at all, i stayed around he circle in the same 5 bars so i enjoyed the adulation, the name calling, you feel like a celeb when everyone knows you. i found nyself a two stunners who istayed with for my final week.
