Sticking out building traffic chaos

Just sat eating noodle soup in the road that goes down from Nanai to BaanZaan watching the daily mayhem caused by that halfbuilt building that sticks out 10 feet more than any other in that road. Who's the idiot that gave permission for construction to start and for it to stick out so much?...only for building to stop months ago.

Just watched a big truck wanting to go down Baanzaan way and a minibus come up the other way cause a right old snarl up with traffic backed up Nanai road up the hill past the Beach bar.

I would also like to hear the story behind that one.. Annoyed me for a while, yes.
Heard some bar-rumors that the landowner refuses to sell for the offered price etc..

ha ha ha.. Yeah the baanzaan mess..

It used to be a tin shack karaoke.. When the whole soi was flattened for development they would not leave.. I was told a senior police had his finger in that pie but that could be barstool talk.

Anyway whoever it was had enough power that he wouldnt let them even string electric / telephone wires over his plot.. then had to do 4 poles and extend it around his plot (tho how his plot is not part of the gov owned road god only knows)..

Once again small mindedness and power plays makes the place a joke..

Yeah, ridiculous setup. I'm surprised that the patong municipality hasn't taken a portion of the land as "public" to push it back even with the rest of the street.

Would definitely make it much easier to drive down there.

i would completely wall the plot of land in making it worthless.

lol. what a joke. as is all around the new road at the back of jungcylon - potholled to fvck and m'bikes everywhere and then they decide what a great place it would be for tons of food stalls.

whats the opposite of a Vulcan/Mr Spock = a thai, completely illogical mindset. sheesh

I always found it to be part of the charm of the Nanai road area. There are a few similar things around the island.

It's all the nation wide small mindedness in a nutshell.

But even removing that obstruction would have little impact on the growing congestion around that intersection. Why do they allow something so dense to be built anyway? No green space? No lights at the intersection? Where is the parking? a 7 and family mart on the corners causing more congestion? You could make a long stupid list of things from that area. But again I thought that was part of the current Nanai charm.

The thai government can not seize private own land. Its the same on the way to the air port it goes from 3 lanes down to 2 a couple of 100 meter because the land owner did not want to sell.I dont think the road from banzaan to nanai is government own it might be private.i m not 100% sure dhow

I would think if the road was private they'd be charging to park on it! The guy who owns Soi Sansabai is on a nice earner with his.

I am staying right next to this building so I get to see the chaos first hand. gah =( Not one hour goes by without an incident. Actually this whole area is a mess right now because of the construcion work that is being done on Nanai 1. There is so much dirt blowing around you need a face mask to walk down to Jungceylon from here.

I heard a slightly different slant on this idiocy. The version I got that the bit of land was an old cemetrey and the souls of the dead would be disturbed by cars rolling over them. When I asked why is was OK to build a building over them or have the old karaoke I was told that was OK and they would have a peaceful sleep as people walking were OK!! I would like to point out I WAS NOT drunk at the time I heard this!

Further to this I have noticed that the MiB are taking advantage of this particular bottleneck and are using the top end of the road to ensure they have a ready supply of tea money with the number of 'offenders' stuck in traffic. Maybe sticky out buildings are a growth industry.

Foegot that bit- yes version was that it was a chinese cemetrey. Even then its amazing (or not considering where we are) the authorites would allow such a dangerous bottle neck to be constructed.

Amazed if they can build above a cemetary they don't do it on the beach road in Patong

another story, simular to one before.
ive just returned from staying at the Ferb guesthouse.
what i was told is that someone didnt want to pay enough money for the land that sticks out on the road, so the owner of the land didnt sell it.
im also lead to beleive that, that paticular road is actually a private road,, WTF ????.
it,s the second time ive stayed there in 3 months and all that had changed is they have poured the 4th level. things are happenging slowly.
also looking at the front part of the building structure, it looks as though they could knock the offending part of the building down without effecting the main part.
it got me stuffed......

Private roads are still common. Sansabai is a case in fact and was blocked at the top end until about a year ago. there were big signs up at the Bangla end stating that it was a private road, as is Soi Sunset from what i understand. Strange for a private road the MiB 'enfoced' traffic laws even then. Have a look at the Summer Breeze Chanote markers some time- Billpay can't even park ON his own property, yet at night if its an odd/even day the touts park em 3 deep on hte property- sod all he can do.

Some peeps in Patong specialise in buying up small pieces of land in prime locations just to drive up the price for profit. As there is nothing apparently illegal with this (common sense not prevailing) you get this farcical situation with Soi Banzaan. These guys hold out for the best price- consideration to others does not come into it.

Another case in point is the sidewalks. They belong to the property, not the public and there is no automatic right of access. This is why you get all the clutter on the pavement and are forced to walk in the street if you want to get anywhere

I like paulies idea that the road owner who they would not sell out at a sensible price to.. Should just wall it in on thier land.
