Thumbs up UK-visa for Thaigirl in Schengen, very easy!

My wife and I went to the British embassy in Oslo today. I have promised to take her to London for shopping before we go to Thailand in March, so then she needed to apply for a “6 months multi-entry visa” to the UK. Sent in the visa-application online at visa4UK :: Welcome for two weeks ago, and made an appointment at the embassy for today, as I knew I wouldn’t have time before.

Received then an email with information, and a list of papers she needed to enclose with the application; prove of job or student in Norway, bank-accounts, house or apartment in Norway, marriage certificate, passport , etc………………. It also said that we had to pay NOK 1700,- (10.000 Baht) for the application.

We arrived for our appointment, and the woman there asked if we had with us a printed application, photo, marriage certificate, and if we were going to travel to the UK together. I said that we had not booked tickets yet as we were not sure when to go, but yes I would go with her. She then told us to come back two ours later to pick up the visa. I ask about the fee, and the woman told us that since I was a Norwegian citizen and the applicant was married to me, then we didn’t have to pay, it was free.

Two hours later we picked up her passport with a “UK Entry Clearance” stamp inside, valid to 30.July 2008.
The service at the British embassy was outstanding.
We arrived in Oslo 10 o’clock and flew back to Bergen at 4. Only 6 hours in Oslo to get her the visa she wanted.

Good news Frode. Very quick service from the British. How unusual 5555

Enjoy your time in London, but please wait until springtime. It is so miserable here until then.

Frode, did they give her an EEA Family Permit or a tourist visa? Would be interesting to see how they processed it

EEA Family Permit

So maybe the title of this thread should have been:
Uk-visa for Thaigirl married in Schengen, very easy!!

The first thing the woman at the embassy asked for when we met was if I was going to travel together with my wife to the Uk. I suppose if you answer yes to this you make it easier for them to approve the application, and that's what I did.
I will then have to travel together with her for the visa to be valid. We could of course try to get her a tourist visa, she fulfill all that are required to get it, but I think she will never travel there without me anyway.

When it comes to embassies you will never know, so why make it more exciting than necessary?

London is the closest "big city" to Norway and the most popular for norwegians to visit abroad. If you have lived in Norway for some years like my wife, you will for sure know what expencive is and everywhere you go will be like visiting a shopping-paradise, even London.

Before she moved to Norway she told me what cities outside Thailand she knew about and wanted to visit: London, Paris, Amsterdam, New York and California
After soon three years here she has visited some european countries and cities, but I think it's now time to start on her "hot list".

Interesting to see they now give eea family permits for shorter visas as they informed me previous this what not possible (however we would argue that at any time)
