Phone calls to LOS
Just wondering if anyone can help me. I've just had a Ģ400 phone bill from calling my GF in Thailand! Is there anyway i can call her for cheaper from a UK mobile? Thanks in advance for any help.

The alternative is called Skype. Skype official website – free download and free calls and internet calls
I have a lot of friends all around the world, and it's very easy to reach them like that. It is an application for the PC which enables you to chat with other people who also have it installed for free, like it is also possible through MSN, ventrilo, teamspeak, ...
However, what differs skype from all those other applications, is that you can sign up for a premium account and use Skype not only to call someone else who's also using it on his/her PC, but you can call any number on the world. It works a bit like a prepaid card, you sign up for the premium account, buy a prepaid card for your account and then you're free to call ( or also send SMSes ). It is WAY cheaper than anything else. I checked it, and a call from wherever on the world to a thai mobile number is about 0,1 € / minute.
I can vouch for them, as I'm using the services myself, just like a lot of other people I know do. They are very serious, the network's always up, and the one and only downside is that you will have to sit on ur PC / Laptop to call (you need a headset for that). However, I'm sure it could reduce your costs by at least 90 %.
Hope this helps.

I agree with Skype but if you are using a landline or mobile either get a prepaid card from any of the asian outlets in the UK,or I used NobelCom UK found them very cheap. I only spend around Ģ10 a month calling the GF hope this helps

Yes there are pre-paid cards in the UK. But I think the OP wanted to use a mobile to call LOS. Not so many alternatives for cheap calls that way.

I will recommend you to use Lebara Mobile.
You will then get a new sim-card and can call to Thailand for 6P/Min (mob/mob). I don't say it is the cheapest one, but it is very easy to use without having to dial pin codes and you can also charge your account on the net.
My wife use this phone every day for calling in Norway and to Thailand, as it is nearly the same price wherever you call in the world.

You can call for free with IP telephone to her mobile. You need broadband connection. I use VoipDiscount and Im calling my GF for free to her mobile.
I have a wirerless DIP phone so i can call her from anywere in my house or my garden.
I have been using their service for +2 years and no problems.
I pay 10 euro and can call for free 120 days. After 120 days they charge 1 cent per minute. There is a limit how long you can call. I think its 330 minutes per 10 days. Half hour per day. But if you dont call one day you can call 1 hour next day and so one.
check it out: VoipDiscount | Free Calls and SMS

Is Phuket static, no changes? Is everything up to date if you use the search engine? Why dont you use the pm funkton? Why do you have to comment on every tread, often with a personal message to some you knew.
There is a few ***** on this board that scaring away newbies. Is that good bussines for Nicke?

Try downloading voipstunt. You can transfer it to your mobile from the computer. I use it and it costs less than 2p per minute.

Dont take it personally mate, Dodge is an argumentative b@stard BUT, underneath that bluster he is ok and one of the most helpful guys on the forum to newbies. I speak from experience. Dont tell him I said so though.

I understand he is a good man. I wrote no hard feelings.
But i think I have a point.
I have been a member on this board long time but i dont post so much couse to meny treads is hijacked or used as pm .
A newbie to computers, to forums, or to LOS, What do he think when he get "USE SEARCH FUNKTION" in his face?
Ofcourse he never be back.
The time and effort to make a friendly reply is same then to be unpolite.
If a long time member knew there is an update reply of search engine was used, thell the newbie! A new member on this board can feel he/she is outside, course they dont knew the others. Do they stay? No! How meny members is on this board VS how meny dear to post?
If a first timer visit the general board and only sees congrat to 1000 post and happy birthday BM. He might feel outside and never come back.

I take your point that the sensitive might be offended enough not to return and a number iof threads read like a private boys club.
I would say, however, that a general reading of the forum will enlighten even the sensitive to the fact there are a lot of good people here and what may be seen initially as a snub or critique is really advice wrapped in sarcasm.
That does not dilute your concern however, and you make a valid observation, IMO.

All this useful information to the OP about skype and voip is all very well, but as I mentioned earlier, he wants to use his mobile phone to call Thailand, as stated in the opening post.

there are several SIP-clients for mobile phones available...
some of them can also be used with a special "pre-dial" number to make cheap calls, so it's not impossible
